The Minnesota Twins scorhed the baseball earth on Thursday with a fire sale — dumpster fire — for the ages, trading 10 players, taking $22 million off the 2025 books, and infuriating a loyal fan base already on edge.
This included eating $33 million of the contract of the highest-paid Twin ever, Carlos Correa, and the complete blowup of the bullpen, with several promising and semi-proven players.
While plenty of other media outlets will break down the "grades" and effectiveness of these moves, Happy Hour host John Gaskins' main takeaway is just how awesome of both a bumbling mess, yet shrewd, cheap and evil ownership group the Pohlads are.
Gaskins has an idea inspired by Clark Griswold in "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation," a not-so-warm send-off for the Pohlads once they have finally, mercifully, sell the team.
Meanwhile, the tone of the fan bases of both Jackrabbit and Coyote football squads couldn't be any more contrasting from Twins fans.
Both SDSU and USD are expected to be national title contenders, have new head coaches, plenty of new faces, and wildly intriguing quarterbacks. Matt Zimmer was at first-week practices for both teams, and Gaskins sifts out the most relevant reporting and on-the-record statements.
Hear plenty of insightful commentary on how things look in both Brookings and Vermillion leading up to the Aug. 29 openers. And, take in the coverage of Matt Zimmer and new USD writer Trey Houchin. Plus, the new "Jackrabbit Lounge" and "Coyote Lounge" video features that include practice footage and commentary from Matt Zimmer.
