Friday Morning Frequencies
[ Love for our live and local culture,
community making art and making change]
10a - 1pm Pacific
FRI. 11.03.2023
a conversation with La Doña, the Mission’s Cecilia Peña-Govea, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, featuring her wide-ranging music, with deep roots in Latin folk traditions from corridos, rancheras, mariachi and rumba to modern reggaeton, cumbia, and hip hop … digging into reflections on her feminist path in the industry, sustaining radical joy, and her deep nurturance of and with community… in advance of her hometown return at the Fillmore on Thursday 11/9.
But to start out, our ‘first Friday’s poet', Stephen Meadows, a Californian poet with roots deep in both the Ohlone and the pioneer soil of his home state. His poems are elemental visions that capture the essential truths of his life and the beauty of the natural world around us, words for our ever-present history, for legacy and for resilience
…and a last hour’s visit from Mali’s Madou Sidiki Diabaté and the US's Salif Bamakora, beautiful kora duet music, here for a rare US appearance also on Thursday 11/9, at Oakland’s BAM (Black Arts Movement) House
plus new music from all over the Bay and well beyond, and beyond genre, plus tickets, and big community love.
… all broadcasting live from unceded Ramaytush Ohlone territory.
