Perhaps the key turning point for TIFF and the Oscars. Since this won the People's Choice award in 2008, TIFF winners have gone on to dominate Oscar nominations year after year... if only this was a better movie...

Quick note, I incorrectly refer to the language that is primarily spoken in the first timeline as Hindu instead of Hindi, and was so mad at myself while editing because I had made a note of the difference.

Been busy at TIFF so uploading this one a little later than usual.

A truly surprising TIFF winner, but just more evidence that the Toronto audience are the best in the business. A second Cronenberg/Mortensen collaboration sees them push the envelope a little further, but also continue their confident storytelling as they make you wait for the real fireworks.

Starting the TIFF People's Choice Winners mini-marathon off with the wildly quirky and lovely movie Amelie. For Kate it's another chance to keep diving into International cinema, as well as discovering that she might be a huge Audrey Tautou fan.

I know every week is basically an opportunity for me to geek out about something related to the movies, but this is our first David Fincher movie and he is my favourite filmmaker, so I apologize up front.

And having to spend a couple hours watching Jack Black flail about on screen proved harder than she could have expected!

We are finally doing a non-English language movie and I couldn't be happier that it was Memories of Murder (I pick the movies so it was always going to have a good chance of being the first). Kate drops the bombshell that this might be one of the first two or three non-English movies she has ever watched though, so suffice to say she is starting with the best.

But before we get into the movie, we talk about how jampacked July was with new releases. Did we like Barbie is the big question?
