Friday Reflection: December 18th, 2020 - Don't Hate, Rejuvenate

We have this saying and teaching. Just one more thing, because there's always something, and it's just one more thing.

Recently we've been using this language too. I don't have any bandwidth for that. I'm running out of bandwidth for this. 

I'm not sure if I will ever escape this one more thing. I'm not sure if I'll ever have enough bandwidth to do everything that I need to do in my day-to-day.

How am I supposed to find some relief?

It's really real out here. Produced by Salaam Remi featuring Black Thought and Common. There is something Common said in the second verse that really got me thinking and raised a question.

Kind of funny when bits of insight and wisdom happens to show up in your daily life. 

This week was also the week of Thanksgiving. I like to call it the week of giving thanks, to take time to be reflective and I have gratitude for all the blessings in our lives.

I acknowledge that the myth and tradition that starts this holiday is not one that is very kind to my indigenous brothers and sisters out there. 

Just know I am grateful for your presence and with that let's get into it. 

This week I find myself sitting in the car outside of the grocery store. Just when I'm about to head in to do my grocery shopping for the week.

I get an idea, I get an idea about games and race.

And I was so inspired by this idea that I decided to delay my entry into the grocery store by five minutes to film a video.

Complete the grocery trip, not realizing that this five-minute video was a mistake.

There is bolder in my stomach, electricity, just humming through my skin at my fingertips.

I'm teaching class, and every week, we start with acknowledgments land acknowledgments and acknowledgment of the Black Lives Matter movement, and I have to talk about another shooting. I do my best to process, hold space, but as I'm talking about what happened to the young father in Vancouver, Washington. I feel the electricity flowing through my body. I feel the tension in my stomach.

I subscribe to The New York Times Online. It's my phone in hand. I'm glued continuously swiping down the screen. Refreshing election results, this tension. This tightness, this electricity just flowing through me. It rises to a point where I am unable to function. I have to do something to move this energy.
