After spending 7 months locked down on an island in Indonesia, Tianyi was able to join me for today's podcast from her current home of Vietnam. In this episode she tells me the story of why she left the fashion industry to live in Southeast Asia and pursue her creative passions. We get deep, talking about what it means to deconstruct the concept of home and how to keep up with the parallel journey happening inside your head as you travel.

Today I’m excited to introduce you all to Suki, my friend from Bolivia. We actually met in Buenos Aires right before the pandemic hit, and we both had to leave Argentina early due to COVID 19. But before everything came crashing down, we got to know each other while partying and exploring in one of South America’s largest cities. In this episode, Suki shares her background working in a hostel, how she views the differences among South American countries, and how love and energy are the two best things that can happen to you while travelling.
Suki is a true romantic and adventurer so give her some love on Instagram @i_amsuki
She has some amazing travel photos on there. Also check out photos from our time together in BA on our insta @friendlyfaces_amazingplaces
Meet Paula, a teacher and law graduate from Brazil who I met while travelling in Chile. You may recognize her voice from our Black Lives Matter episode. Paula is incredibly insightful and a great person to chat with about the history and social landscape of the countries she visits. In this episode, you’ll get to know not only her joyful personality but also her perspective on Brazil! What are the best foods? What are favelas? Listen now to find out!
Since my native language is English and Paula's is Portuguese, we recorded this episode mostly in Spanish. If you need English translations, please view the episode here: https://youtu.be/wEQXWwFEsPM

This week on the podcast: a self-proclaimed hippie! Ana is a friend, an artist, social media manager, clean eating advocate and community health worker! She shares travel tips and insights about her home country Argentina and talks about how Argentinian culture is different from other South American countries she’s visited.
Quote:
“I think everyone needs at least once to travel by themself, not with people, not with friends, not as a couple, just alone...because that’s the moment where you don't need to be the character you're supposed to be. You can be who you really are because other people really don't know you and they will not judge you."

We’re back! I think we can all agree that 2020 hasn’t been the best year, so let’s go back in time a few years with my friend Tianna. Tianna had the unique experience of spending a year abroad during high school. In this episode she dishes on the differences between Germany and the USA and how living abroad as a teen changed her view of the world.

In this episode I reached out to my friends around the world to ask about their reactions to the BLM movement. It's easy to get caught up in your country's news outlets, but it's extremely informative to get an outside perspective.
Friendly Faces stands for BLACK LIVES MATTER.

Let me set the scene. Tokyo at night. Halloween street party. Bustling gay bar. This is where I met Bobby and Nash, two fun, intelligent guys from Taiwan. This episode is a bit different from others before it. Bobby and Nash are experts on living in Taiwan and Japan, and they share their insights into the two cultures and countries. In this episode:

Soccer or football? Whatever you want to call it, Clemens has played it on three continents. Whether it’s through sport, playing guitar, or learning languages, he always finds a way to connect with people on a deep level while travelling.
In this episode Clemens and I reminisce about our time in Colombia, how to handle encounters with Mexican police, and why you should always bring your pants and keys to the hostel bathroom?

He speaks six languages. He’s been to 50 countries. And he travels like there’s no tomorrow. My guest this week is Zak, an awesome guy I met in Santiago, Chile.
We had some great conversations about the annoying habits of Traveling Gringos™, how corona-virus will change travel, and processing the experience of Western privilege when confronted by its impact on other humans around the world.
Check out Zak's travel photos on our social media!
My guest this week is one of the friendliest people I’ve met. Olivia explores the world through conversation whether it’s breaking down the fear of speaking a foreign language or understanding cultural differences about gender. I love that she’s down to talk out both the uncomfortable and the joyous parts of travel such as undermining countries’ “dangerous” reputations or discovering what kinds of travel don’t work for you.
Olivia is super insightful and well-traveled and you can find out more about her on Instagram @o_mckellar
