Publisher's Summary:
Alex works in a gallery in the small Connecticut town where he moved after inheriting his parents' house. One day, at a local CPR class, he meets Tea, a young woman and aspiring artist who invents a mutual acquaintance named Whitmore as a means of breaking the ice and introducing herself. As their relationship deepens, Alex becomes preoccupied with imagining who Whitmore might be, considering Whitmore to be a paragon of masculine perfection. But when the Whitmore myth begins to unravel, so does Alex's relationship with Tea.
A charming story about how we relate to each other and the devices we sometimes invent in order to make sense of the world around us.

Alex, Tea and Whitmore.
'Friends of Whitmore' is an original, short story, which left me creating my own, happier ending.
When Tea chats to Alex after the CPR session, she tries to keep his interest by asking him if he knows people she knows. He admits to not knowing any of them, but desiring to know Tea better, he says he knows Whitmore. From this moment on, Whitmore will be their 'collage', and an important person in their lives.
Although Alex has inherited a house in Connetticut from his parents, he prefers to live in a studio-appartment in town, as an art critic.
Tea works in a restuarant at first, but later takes the role of photographing solitary, older men.
Alex's and Tea's relationship deepen to the point where they share his appartment, and discuss details of their work, and Whitmore is omnipresent. Alex feels sorry for Tea when he imagines the squalor of the rooms through Tea's photos of these 'harmelss' men, who do not provoke him to jealousy.
Eventually Alex suggests they move into his former house. He manages to sell off most all his mothers porcelain collection and some of his father's items to make room for himself and Tea.
One day Alex escorts Alistair, a Scott painter, to an art gallery. Tea is present and meets Alistair. Her relationship with Alex tends to sour. She asks him to drop Whitmore from their conversations, saying frankly that he is an imaginary figure. Alex suggests they replace him with Alistair, to joke about and have something in common.
The end of this short tale is, in a way, unexpected. Nevertheless, it is an interesting read.
Quirky short story
A short story about a quirky middle-aged man going through a mid-life crisis. Not much depth in the characters so you can't get to know them well enough to really care about them. Whitmore is a
cool, suave macho man image that Alex will never attain and can only wish for. The writing is witty and enjoyable but the story lacks substance.
Where is my Whitmore?
A carefully-written, humorous, and charming story, with a subtle but affecting emotional undercurrent. Bravo! Treat your phone or one of your pads, and thus yourself, to Whitmore.
Good story
The loneliness, fear of losing some one you love, the overall desperation comes out very well. Well written short story
"Tea said she wanted to know she could save a life , or choose not to if she liked."
Alex really likes her answer to the question of why they are taking a CPR class. He isn't really sure why he is here other than adding to his avenues of control.
