1. mock 取笑，嘲笑 

Chandler对Monica布置房间的安排不满，Monica说Are you mocking me? 

Mock，取笑，嘲笑，贬义很重，带有轻蔑的色彩。同样意思的tease 却不含贬义，主要指朋友间互相打趣的取笑。

Monica: What do you have against the beautiful guest room?

Chandler: I don’t have anything against the beautiful guest room, especially since everybody we know lives about 30 seconds away!

Monica: Are you mocking me?

Chandler: No, I’m not mocking you, (in a mocking voice) or you beautiful guest room. 

2. hat-rack 衣帽架，草包 

Joey指着自己的大头说Not just a hat-rack.

Hat-rack是衣帽架。“我的头不是衣帽架”引申为我可不是个草包。

Joey: Hey, what’s up?

Chandler: Nothing, Monica and I had a stupid fight.

Joey: But you’re still moving in together, right? Because my ad came out today. (Shows him the paper.)

Chandler: (reading the ad) "Wanted. Female roommate, non-smoker, non-ugly." Nice!

Joey: Yeah? I just figured y’know, after living with you it’d be an interesting change of pace to have a female roommate, y’know? Someone I can learn from, someone-someone who’s different than me. And what’s more different than me; a guy who’s not 19 than say a girl who is 19? Enh? (Points to his head.) Not just a hat rack my friend!

3. be swamped 忙 

Phoebe说I am swamped right now. Swamp当名词是沼泽，困境的意思。

Be swamped 意思是very busy.

Be swamped with doing sth. 

Rachel: Pheebs, I have to ask you…

Phoebe: Shhhhhh! I’m swamped right now.

Rachel: You’re just staring into space.

Phoebe: Umm, I’m trying to move that pencil. 

Rachel: This one? (Picks it up.)

4. blurt out 脱口而出 

Joey想让房客好好想想再回答他的问题不要话讲的太快，说 Don't just blurt stuff out.

5. be binding 有约束力，必须遵守 

Be binding 有约束力，必须遵守。Ross 说Verbal contract is binding. 口头协议也是有约束力的。

例句：

His letter was not binding on anybody else, except the churches in his Alexandrian diocese.

Ross: (stopping them) Okay-okay! Two very good points, look I’ve known you both a long time, and I’ve never seen either of you one/millionth as happy as you’ve been since you’ve got together. Rachel告诉Gunther她不用搬家，说I am staying put. 

Stay put 停在原地，停留不走

Gunther: So I understand you’re looking for a place.

Rachel: No-no, I’m staying put.

Gunther: Oh, I was going to offer you my apartment.

Rachel: Why, where are you going?

Gunther: I don’t know.

7. on the bright side 从好的方面看 

Monica和Chandler搬到一起住了，Rachel只能从公寓里搬出来，但Ross劝她从好的一面看。
