1. on the house 免费招待 

Joey在咖啡厅当waiter, 不断向漂亮的女顾客免费送出糕点以获得她们的青睐。他对一位女顾客说 That's on the house. 当在餐馆或咖啡厅听到waiter说on the house 那就走运了

on the house 意思是免费招待，刚才的消费不用付钱。

一般餐厅会对过生日的顾客免费送出一些食物或者是饮品，像我们这边的餐厅过生日送长寿面一样。

2. courtesy of 多亏，由于 

同一个对话当中，Joey说完that's on the house以后马上又补了一句courtesy of Joey Tribbiarni. 

Courtesy of在这里的意思是：thanks to；as a result of。（多亏，由于…）

Courtesy有两种主要的含义，一种是：礼貌，礼节（polite behavior）；另一种是：帮忙、协助、慷慨（favor, help, generosity）。在courtesy of这个短语中，取第二种含义。另外，你也会见到by courtesy of…的用法，其意思和courtesy of一致。

例句：The costumes for the play were by courtesy of the local department store.（感谢当地百货大楼为本剧提供服装。）

Monica生病了被赶回家休息，但天生tough的Monica对此并不认可，她说 Getting sick is for weaklings and for pansies!

weakling 指虚弱的人

pansy 本意是三色堇花，也可以指软弱的人或男同性恋，但是是有贬义的。 

Monica: (entering) Hey!

Ross: Hey!

Chandler: Hey, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at work?

Monica: (congested) Ugh, they sent me home. They said I can’t work if I’m sick.

All: Ohh!

5. run errand 出去办事儿 

Rachel为了让妹妹Jill学会独立，把Jill的一些物品拿走了，然后说I’m gonna run a couple of errands.

Run errand 出去办事，并不说明是办什么事情。Errand 跑腿儿

例句：

Her boss sent her  on an errand  into town. 老板派她进城办事去了。

Rachel: Jill?

Jill:  I’m sorry Rachel, I’m sorry…

Rachel: Oh, come on! You think that’s gonna work on me?! I invented that!

Ross听到Rachel鼓励妹妹Jill跟自己约会，很感动地说you are a much bigger person than I am. 

you are a bigger person than I am。指的是你比我心胸宽广.

Ross: (entering) Rach? Hi!

Rachel: Hi!

Ross: Did you tell your sister to ask me out?

Rachel: Well yeah…

Ross: Oh wow! I mean, wow! I mean, I-I-I think she’s cute but I-I would never have thought of going out with her, never!

Monica为了证明自己不是病人，用尽各种方法诱惑Chandler和自己亲热，最后终于成功。她说了一句It worked like a charm.

Chandler: So you wanna go uh, mix it up?

Chandler: Well that was before all the vaporizing action.
