Hi there,
Around now, a lot of kids are hearing about who their teachers are for this academic year and scrambling to find out which of their friends will be in their class. While parents and teachers are thinking about learning and logistics, kids are focused on friends.
But friendships can be complicated. Maybe your child has come home upset after an argument with a friend. Maybe they’ve felt hurt because of teasing or jealous because a friend has a new friend. Maybe they want to be included in a group, but find themselves on the outside looking in because don’t know what to say or do to join.
Adults tend to offer quick reassurance:
“Just be yourself!”
“Find someone else to play with!”
“Don’t worry about it.”
But for a child who’s hurting or confused, that advice often falls flat.
Kids need more than encouragement. They need skills.
