In contrast, Brett argues that modern conflicts are defined by ambiguity. Today’s adversaries, like the Houthis and Iranian-backed militias, are ideologically driven and operate in gray areas, often denying responsibility while testing U.S. resolve. He highlights how international law, media scrutiny, and the risk of escalation have complicated military responses, replacing clarity with caution.
