Did you know that the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) initially opposed the passage of the Fair Housing Act in 1968? At one time, they also allowed the exclusion of members based on race or sex, which was part of a systematic policy of residential racial segregation, led by the federal government and supported by America's banking system and real estate industry, driven by practices like redlining.
However, we are proud to say that times have changed, and the real estate industry is moving towards a more inclusive and diverse future. We are honored to have Jessica Coates as our special guest on the next episode of Selling Sacramento. As the first black female CEO for the Sacramento Association of REALTORS®, she is leading one of NAR's largest organizations and making great strides in a short period of time. This is groundbreaking and a testament to the progress we have made towards a more equitable and just society.
In this segment titled "From Discrimination to Diversity," we will explore Mrs. Coates' inspiring journey, challenges, and successes as she breaks down barriers and paves the way for a more inclusive real estate industry in Sacramento. So, tune in and join us as we celebrate Fair Housing Month and learn from the trailblazing leadership of Mrs. Jessica Coates.
