Voices in the Family

From Refugee to Refuge: Cultivating Compassion

Listen Later

We see disaster stories on the news all the time. Whether it is a fire in California, or a tsunami halfway across the world, it can make us feel empathetic or it can make us feel numb and helpless. Lately we’ve been seeing disturbing images of the struggles of refugees trying to find asylum in the European Union. How do we respond to the plight of others when the numbers seem almost unfathomable? We talk to Joel Stonington, a reporter who made the journey with refugees from Serbia and learn first-hand what some of their struggles are. And, we follow up with Dr. Stephen Post, author of Why Good Things Happen to Good People: How to Live a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life by the Simple Act of Giving.
