God leaves you here for a reason. Don’t give up and rust. Your soul never gets old. When you are faithful to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ you leave a faithful witness. This is your charge from God, Psalm 71:18, “Now when I am old and grey-headed, O God, do not forsake me until I declare Your strength to this generation and Your power to everyone who is to come.” Our job in old age is to declare His power and His strength. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have kept the faith” (2 Tim 4:6-7). When the time comes to die, you want to be able to say, “I did my job, I fought the good fight, I finished my race and I kept the faith.” Don’t let issues of health and disease distract you. These are opportunities to trust God and utilize His marvelous provisions to run the race. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Is 40:29). Every day the Word of God gives you new life and the Holy Spirit empowers you. “Be exalted Lord in your own strength and we will sing and praise Your power” (Ps 21:13). Free of worry and fear is a wonderful way to live—to have objective optimism and share the happiness of God because you have the power of God living in you.
