FEATURING CEDRID DE LEON - Workers at a Starbucks cafe in Buffalo, New York, have successfully voted to join a union. The labor victory took place at only one of Starbucks’ 9,000 locations nationwide but is significant in spurring others to obtain similar collective bargaining rights. Several other Starbucks locations in Buffalo have already filed to vote, and some stores in Boston have now announced they plan to organize to join a union.
The news comes weeks after the National Labor Relations Board announced that Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama would get a second chance to vote for a union after an investigation revealed multiple violations by Amazon.
Meanwhile, Kellogg’s workers who have been on strike for months continue their picket after their employer announced it would permanently replace them in retaliation for rejecting a paltry contract offer.
