Struggling with surrender? Discover how Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane shows us where the climb truly begins.

In Week 1 of The Ascent, we begin the journey upward by first acknowledging where we truly are. In From the Far Country, we see that every spiritual climb starts with honesty. Just as Psalm 120 opens with a cry from a hostile land, Jesus begins His ascent to the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane—with anguish, prayer, and surrender.

Before there is victory, there is vulnerability. Before resurrection, there is surrender. Jesus shows us that the climb begins not with strength, but with a decision: “Not my will, but Yours be done.” When we bring our distress to the Father and choose surrender over control, we take the first step upward.
