Providence schools Superintendent Chris Maher said in an email to staff on Tuesday that he will resign at the end of the school year due to family obligations, but state education Commissioner Ken Wagner said the power structure in Providence has kept a revolving door of superintendents moving through the city.

The public pressure has put the airport corporation on the defensive. A day after The Hummel Report visited Block Island earlier this month, three agency representatives, including Andrade, flew to the island to meet with DuPont and Roberge in an effort to smooth the waters

“All we’re asking for is exactly what is being offered at the state’s other airports,” said Henry DuPont, a pilot and former Town Council member who has lived on the island and flown out of its airport since the 1970s. “If we’re part of a state airport system, we should have the same services that are being offered at the other airports.”
