In this episode, I speak with Kenny Kemsley. He shares his journey from growing up in New Zealand, his early interest in music and DJing, to forming a band and touring across Australia and New Zealand. We discuss how these experiences laid the foundation for his understanding of the music industry and inspired him to create an app for artists and tour organizers. Kenny shares the journey of building Daysync, a tour management platform designed to simplify the lives of musicians and tour managers. In this episode, discover how technology can empower artists, the importance of community, and the future of music industry tools.
Kenny's Bio:
Kenny Kemsley is the founder of Capsule Labs and the creator of Daysync, a touring platform built for acts of every size, from club shows to stadium tours, all on the same platform. Daysync lowers the barrier to entry for independent and emerging artists by giving them access to the kind of professional touring and business tools historically reserved for larger acts, while scaling with them as they grow, so there's never a need to change platforms as a career develops. Kenny has always been a creative at heart, someone who has consistently sought to make an impact through his creative work. His path into the music industry began with studying audio engineering, after which he spent years playing in an independent band that was eventually signed by a label in Australia, all while working as a DJ on the side just to make ends meet, since the band's creative work alone wasn't paying the bills. That firsthand experience of trying to sustain a creative career gave him an intimate understanding of the operational and business challenges touring artists face, from scheduling and logistics to the broader struggle of turning creative work into a sustainable livelihood. That experience left him with a deep appreciation for the industry and its people, and ultimately led him to move into software as a new way to pursue the same drive for creative impact, this time by building products and services for the space he'd grown to love. Rather than starting from theory, Kenny has built Daysync from the inside, drawing on the relationships and network he maintains from his time in the industry. He works directly with artists, managers, and touring professionals across all levels, from grassroots to stadium scale, to understand how they actually operate day to day, using those ongoing conversations and connections to inform what gets built and to make sure the product reflects real, practical need rather than assumption. Since launching in November 2025, Daysync has been live and steadily growing its user base across the touring spectrum.Kenny's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kennykemsley/

I catch up with my brother's friend Travis, who went from playing in Kingwood-area bands as a teenager to touring the world doing merch and production. We reminisce about our Houston scene days, shows at Java Jazz and Warped Tour, favorite emo/metalcore bands like Saosin and The Devil Wears Prada before diving into the unglamorous realities of tour life (shared emetophobia, tour bus bathroom rules, and the legendary "hot bag") and comparing notes on Coachella and festival culture.
Travis also opens up about his current gig with artist Lauren Sanderson, including the story behind her viral Fred Durst collab and their upcoming Limp Bizkit tour dates, plus a fun tie-in to a Hayley Williams lyric he unknowingly inspired. The conversation wraps with Nashville life, LA daydreams, and a deep dive into cryptids and paranormal lore (the Hodag, Wendigos, and the Bell Witch Cave) before Travis plugs his fall tour dates.

Philly death metal band Trunk joins me for a chaotic, heartfelt hang about how they became a band (spoiler: Craigslist, twice), why the DIY scene runs on love and free stickers, and the time a member's hair caught fire on stage… and it sealed the deal. We trace their winding paths from trumpet rejects to bass converts, swap an oddly perfect list of influences (Black Dahlia Murder, Hall & Oates, Wu-Tang, outlaw country), and mourn the death of physical media, back when album art alone could sell a record. There's also van life with nine people crammed into one RV, the hair-fire show that made the lineup permanent, and a reminder that it's never too late, half the band didn't play a real show until their 30s.

In this solo episode of From URL to IRL, host I open up about growing up feeling socially disconnected, later realizing in my 30s that I am autistic and have ADHD, and how music became my bridge to other people. I trace this thread from early message boards, MySpace, and Tumblr fandoms through to real friendships, relationships, and even my marriage, all sparked by shared musical interests. I share stories about lifelong friends made through fan communities (Terri Clark, Seether, Taylor Swift), family bonding over songs like Shania Twain's "Man I Feel Like a Woman," and more recent adventures at concerts and festivals like Coachella with friends met online. The episode explains the podcast's title: relationships that start online ("URL") and become genuine, lasting connections in real life ("IRL"), with music as the common thread throughout.
