Over the course of his distinguished career, Prof. Barstow has made major contributions to our understanding of white dwarfs and the interstellar medium, pioneering the development of ultraviolet space instrumentation used to explore these enigmatic stellar remnants.
He has been closely involved with NASA and ESA’s Hubble Space Telescope since its launch in 1990 and later played a key oversight role in the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) project — a testament to his leadership in both science and international collaboration.
