  • New-age Advancements Raising the Bar in the Indian EV & Hybrid Electric Vehicle Market

Topic Discussed : Strategic Analysis of the Indian EV & Hybrid Electric Vehicle Market, 2017-2030

    Speaker: V Naga Karthik

    Key takeaways:

    1. Frost & Sullivan estimates approximately 1.4 million electric vehicles (EVs) will be sold globally in India by 2030, accounting for about 18% of the new vehicles market. EVs are expected to account for about 15% while FHEVs will have a share of about 4%
    2. By 2023, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will maintain the lead position and are likely to account for about 34,000 units, followed by 16,000 FHEVs. However, towards 2030, the volume of EVs is expected to reach 1.2 million units
    3. Although the Government of India is not too keen on subsidies for Electric Vehicles, the focus is expected to remain on promoting renewable energy initiatives apart from incentivizing setting up of local manufacturing facilities for EV components such as batteries, electric motors and other peripherals
    4. Customer awareness and understanding of EVs limited; consequently only 49% of respondents willing to pay more than their current vehicle price for EVs and FHEVs, while 38% would like to pay less than their current vehicle price
    5. Mahindra is expected to lead the EV race while Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are likely to take the lead in the FHEV race towards 2030. OEMs such as Hyundai and Tata Motors are expected to join the bandwagon as volumes increase

  • Africa looks to the Skies

Topic Discussed : Africa’s Business Travel and Transport Transformation

    Speaker: Byron Messaris

    Key takeaways:

To many, Africa represents some of the final frontiers for industrial development. Large-scale infrastructure developments, especially in airports and roads, are having a positive effect on improving commercial linkages in Africa. There is, however, still significant space for innovation and growth in the business travel sector

The air transport market in Africa remains below its potential level of competitiveness. African states need to speed up the liberalisation of the skies by sticking to the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) and the 1999 Yamoussoukro Decision. By lifting market access restrictions, African cities and travellers will enjoy greater connectivity and competition, which is key to creating a thriving connected regional economy. With airlines and hotels investing and growing rapidly in Africa, the time for cities and their respective governments to drive a developmental agenda geared toward attracting investors, travellers, and tourists could not be any more pressing
