The parable of the four soils in Matthew 13, uses farm soil to represent different conditions of the human heart in its ability to receive the gospel. The hardened, shallow, and crowded hearts all fail to produce fruit because something within them obstructs the seed. Only the open heart—prepared by the Holy Spirit—receives the gospel, understands it, and bears lasting fruit. Salvation is evidenced not by initial enthusiasm or outward foliage but by persevering faith and genuine fruitfulness. Ultimately, God alone transforms the heart, making even the hardest soil receptive to Christ.
