In 1988, at the peak of their popularity, they disappeared and were not seen again until a return in 1999 with the Horrorcore CD Their 30-year career was capped off by a final appearance at the 2012 Wacken Open Air in Germany.

A perpetual stew, also known as forever soup, hunter's pot or hunter's stew, is a pot into which whatever foodstuffs one can find is placed and cooked. The pot is never or rarely emptied all the way, and ingredients and liquid are replenished as necessary. Such foods can continue cooking for decades or longer, if properly maintained. The concept is often a common element in descriptions of medieval inns. Foods prepared in a perpetual stew have been described as being flavorful due to the manner in which the ingredients blend together.

Perpetual stews are speculated to have been common in medieval cuisine, often as pottage or pot-au-feu: Bread, water or ale, and a companaticum ('that which goes with the bread') from the cauldron, the original stockpot or pot-au-feu that provided an ever-changing broth enriched daily with whatever was available. The cauldron was rarely emptied out except in preparation for the meatless weeks of Lent, so that while a hare, hen or pigeon would give it a fine, meaty flavour, the taste of salted pork or cabbage would linger for days, even weeks. — Reay Tannahill Between August 2014 and April 2015, a New York restaurant served broth from the same perpetual stew (a master stock) for over eight months. A batch of pot-au-feu was claimed by one writer to be maintained as a perpetual stew in Perpignan from the 15th century until World War II, when it ran out of ingredients to keep the stew going due to the German occupation. The tradition of perpetual stew is also kept alive in some Southern and Eastern Asian countries: Wattana Panich restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, has continued to maintain the broth from the same perpetual stew for over 48 years (as of 2023). The food industry in Japan still maintains perpetual stews in certain traditional dishes, for instance in ramen[citation needed] and oden: Otafuku, one of the oldest oden restaurants in Japan, has been heating up the same batch of broth every day since 1945.

When Pacific Salmon complete their life cycle and return to spawn, they start to fall apart and rot while they are still alive. In a way, these fish might be the closest thing to real-life zombies.

A salmon run is an annual fish migration event where many salmonid species, which are typically hatched in fresh water and live most of the adult life downstream in the ocean, swim back against the stream to the upper reaches of rivers to spawn on the gravel beds of small creeks. After spawning, all species of Pacific salmon and most Atlantic salmon die, and the salmon life cycle starts over again with the new generation of hatchlings.

Salmon are anadromous, spending their juvenile life in rivers or lakes, and then migrating out to sea where they spend adult lives and gain most of their body mass. When they reach sexual maturity, the adults return to the upstream rivers to reproduce. Usually they return with uncanny precision to the natal river where they were born, and even to the very spawning ground of their birth. It is thought that, when they are in the ocean, they use magnetoreception to locate the general position of their natal river, and once close to the river, that they use their sense of smell to home in on the river entrance and even their natal spawning ground.

Trout, which are sister species of salmon, also perform similar migrations, although they mostly move potamodromously between creeks and large freshwater lakes, except for some coastal/estuary subspecies such as steelhead and sea trout that migrate seasonally between salty/brackish and fresh water just like salmon do. There are also landlocked populations of some salmon species that have adapted to spend their entire life in freshwater like trout.

In Northwest America, salmons are keystone species, which means the ecological impact they have on other wildlife is greater than would be expected in relation to their biomass. Most salmon species migrate during the autumn (September through November), which coincides with the pre-winter activities of many hibernating animals. The annual salmon run can be a major feeding event for predators such as grizzly bears and bald eagles, as well as an important window period for sport fishermen. The post-spawning death of salmon also has important ecological consequences, because the significant nutrients in their carcasses, rich in nitrogen, sulfur, carbon and phosphorus, are transferred from the ocean and released to inland aquatic ecosystems, terrestrial animals (such as bears) and the wetlands and riparian woodlands adjacent to the rivers. This has knock-on effects not only for the next generation of salmon, but to every wildlife species living in the riparian zones the salmon reach. The nutrients can also be washed downstream into estuaries where they accumulate and provide significant support for invertebrates and estuarine-breeding waterbirds.

Glenn Michael Lockett (July 1, 1951 – March 4, 2023), better known as Spot, was an American record producer best known for being the house producer and engineer for the influential independent punk record label SST Records. He styled his name SPʘT, using all capital letters and adding a dot inside the O.  Spot recorded, mixed, produced or co-produced most of SST's pivotal acts between 1979 and 1986. He is credited on albums by such notable bands as Black Flag, Minutemen, Mood of Defiance, Meat Puppets, Hüsker Dü, Saint Vitus, Misfits (Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood) and Descendents. After leaving SST in 1986, Spot moved to Austin, Texas. Spot was an accomplished photographer and published a book of his work titled Sounds of Two Eyes Opening. In 2018, a gallery showing of his photographs was mounted at Pacific Coast Gallery in Hermosa Beach.

Far on the outskirts of the big, bad city where Eraserhead probably took place, in the black and white foggy haze of White Plains, Robert, a painter, struggles with the sudden demise and grisly resurrection of his best friend, a Rabbit named Shadow. 

Now, all Robert wants to do is take the-girl-next-door Sydney to the Jovial Halloween Ball and have a good time. But it's hard to have fun when your best friend aspires to be a rock n roll singer and won't stop eating the people you know.

The story is named after the song "My Shadow" by Jay Reatard off his debut solo album, "Bloodvisions."
