Frank Farel is film producer best know for New York Indie Horror Cult masterpieces Spookies (1986) and Street Trash (1987). After revisiting Street Trash and seeing Spookies for the first time, I have A LOT of questions for Frank. Some of these can be mitigated by watching the documentary Twisted Tale: The Unmaking of Spookies (2019).

Street Trash is a 1987 American black comedy body horror film directed by J. Michael Muro (credited as Jim Muro). It won the Silver Raven at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film. The film has acquired a status as a cult classic independent horror-comedy and is one of a number of films known as "melt movies".  Roy Frumkes wrote the screenplay. In an NBR profile he later said: "I wrote it to democratically offend every group on the planet, and as a result the youth market embraced it as a renegade work, and it played midnight shows." The film was based on a ten-minute student film directed by J. Michael Muro and starring Mike Lackey. Bryan Singer worked on the film as a grip.  Deleted scenes include a junkyard dance sequence and a sub-plot involving the relationship between Fred (Mike Lackey) and Bronson; these sequences are included in the documentary Meltdown Memoirs.

Spookies is a 1986 American independent horror film directed by Brendan Faulkner and Thomas Doran, with additional footage directed by Eugenie Joseph. It stars Felix Ward, Dan Scott, Alec Nemser, and Maria Pechukas, and follows a group of partying teenagers who find an abandoned mansion and become trapped inside as a warlock tries to sacrifice the group with the intention of using their vitality to keep his wife alive.

The film was given a limited theatrical release in 1987, with a more widespread video release in the latter year, and also aired on cable television's USA Network multiple times between 1988 and 1991. Despite its limited release, modest box office haul and scarce availability, it has achieved a cult following since its release.  Spookies started out as a feature film entitled Twisted Souls, written and produced by Frank Farel, Brendan Faulkner and Thomas Doran and directed by Faulkner and Doran. Principal photography for the film began at the Jay Estate in Rye, New York in late summer of 1984 and finished in October of that same year. Twisted Souls was being edited when creative and legal issues between the producers and the financial backer prevented final post production work (final editing, scoring, post-effects, etc.) from being carried out.

After stand up comedian Dave Chappelle’s SNL opening monologue, I thought it might be a good time to make this video. There is a popular antisemitic conspiracy theory that “we” Jews control Hollywood, the media, the banking system as we drink the blood of ch!ldren and hide our horns under our yarmulkes - blah blah blah… But the reality is that Jews are intertwined in show business in the same way that Black musicians are intertwined in the Hip Hop/Rap music that was originally created by Black musicians. I must clarify that a BIG difference in this analogy is that Jews did not invent movies in the way that Black musicians actually created Hip/Hop and Rap. It still makes for an apt analogy. What is the history behind this very real association between Jews and the Movie/Film/Entertainment history? Join me for a deep dive discussion.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad is a 1949 American animated anthology film produced by Walt Disney Productions, released by RKO Radio Pictures and directed by Clyde Geronimi, Jack Kinney and James Algar with Ben Sharpsteen as production supervisor. The 11th animated film in the Disney Animation canon, it consists of two segments: the first based on the 1908 children's novel The Wind in the Willows by British author Kenneth Grahame, and the second based on the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by American author Washington Irving.

31 Days of Halloween is back on the Frumess channel. Every year since 2014? I watch a MINIMUM of 31 Halloween movies. Last year, I took it up a notch and did a video review for each thing I saw and this year I plan to attempt the same feat. It is NOT easy, and I may not finish… But I will attempt it.  Rules: I must watch one movie for each day of October. It’s ok to skip a day as long as I reach a minimum total of 31 movies by October 31st.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow The second segment is based on the original story by Washington Irving. Although the film introduces the story as Ichabod Crane, later individual releases retained the story's original title. (As a short story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was originally published in The Sketch Book with other stories, not as a single volume as pictured in the film.)

In October 1790, Ichabod Crane, a lanky, superstitious yet charming dandy arrives in Sleepy Hollow, New York, a small village outside Tarrytown that is renowned for its ghostly hauntings, to be the town's new schoolmaster. Despite his odd behavior, appearance, and effeminate mannerisms, Ichabod soon wins the hearts of the village's women and forms good friendships with his students. Brom Bones, the roguish town hero, does his best to pull pranks to Ichabod. However, he is very good at ignoring these taunts and continues to interact with the townspeople. One day, Ichabod meets and falls in love with Katrina van Tassel, the beautiful daughter of the wealthy Baltus van Tassel and Brom's unofficial fiancee. Despite being obsessed with Katrina's beauty, Ichabod mainly desires to take her family's money for himself. Brom, who has never been challenged like this, proceeds to compete with the schoolmaster, but Ichabod wins Katrina over at every opportunity. Unbeknownst to both men, Katrina is only using Ichabod to make Brom jealous and force him to try harder for her affections.
