Bereits seit 2019 betreibt die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SBB) eine eigene Mastodon-Instanz im Fediverse. “Openbiblio.social” richtet sich an alle Kolleg*innen, die im deutschsprachigen Raum an Bibliotheken arbeiten. Mit über 1.500 Nutzenden ist “Openbiblio.social” mittlerweile zu einer der größeren Instanzen im deutschen Fediverse geworden.

Seit September unterstützt mit der Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin (ZLB) nun auch die größte öffentliche Bibliothek des Landes den Betrieb der Plattform.

Der Vortrag wird die Genese und bisherigen Erfahrungen des Projektes beleuchten und diskutieren, inwiefern die Bereitstellung von Infrastruktur für öffentliche Kommunikation eine zunehmend wichtige Aufgabe öffentlicher Einrichtungen darstellen sollte.

Seid ihr alle da? 14 Millionen Menschen, Organisationen und Institutionen beantworten diese Frage mit einem schlichten “Ja”. Aber wer sind denn diese alle?

Dieser Frage geht Tobias in seinem Vortrag nach und gibt einen Überblick darüber, wer aus der europäischen Zivilgesellschaft bereits im Fediverse vertreten ist. Denn das Fediverse ist längst nicht mehr nur den Computer-Nerds vorbehalten, die sich an Orten wie der c-base treffen. Regierungen, Universitäten, Verlage - und viele mehr sind bereits im Fediverse vertreten in 30000 Gemeinschaften.

Die Frage ist also - seid ihr auch schon da?

Intro zur Veranstaltung

As part of the “Dialog für Cybersicherheit” (Dialogue on Cybersecurity) project, the FSFE and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) are working together with representatives from civil society, academia, industry and public authorities in a project on the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and its implication for Free Software. To ensure clarity, information is needed on who will take on which role and which tasks and processes are to be carried out. In particular, the role of Open Source Stewards and Free Software beyond commercial interest are of particular importance to the project.

‘Public Money? Public Code!’ under this slogan thousands of individuals and hundreds of organisations come together and advocate for Free and Open Source Software in public institutions. Together with over 230 organisations the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) is calling for public institutions to publish publicly financed software under a Free and Open Source Software license - If it is public money, it should be public code! The long-term goal of the initiative is to recognise and reduce the software dependency and vendor lock-in of public administration and to make public administrations digitally independent and sovereign.

In this short talk, Bonnie Mehring introduces the "Public Money? Public code!" initiative by the FSFE and discusses how Free Software is the way to achieve digital sovereignty. Bonnie will discuss how public administrations can become digitally independent and benefit from Free Software.

One of the winning projects of Youth Hacking 4 Freedom 2024, Identity demonstrates how Free Software can help transform healthcare practices, enhancing well-being and promoting more compassionate, personalized care while prioritizing user control and privacy.
