This week, we sit down with glass-ceiling smasher, corporate and nonprofit leader, Atlanta booster, storyteller, mentor, mother and grandmother, community organizer, and woman of the hour Hala Moddelmog. Hala is a fellow Atlantian, spending nearly her entire career in this southeastern metropolis. Shout out for the home team! 

Hala is currently the President and CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center in downtown Atlanta. She has spent nearly 30 years in President and CEO roles from Metro Atlanta Chamber to Arby’s Restaurant Group to Susan G. Komen - and more. Needless to say, ain’t no mountain high enough!

In our 30-minute conversation, Hala shares her story of “having it all,” her unwavering commitment to the Atlanta community, her experience with storytelling and art as mechanisms for learning and change, and her incredible take on how to invest in others “doing the work.”

Hala was among the first to join the I AM 111 to support the “making of” the I AM Series. In this episode, we ask Hala why she joined, and she surprised us with the most authentic and powerful answer!

“I saw two women putting everything on the line to do something important, and I thought sign me up! Let me be a little bit a part of this.” We won’t give it all away, but the TL;DR is: If you can show up for others in the “arena,” do.

Hala describes her experience being part of a generation that had to break proverbial glass ceilings, and how she and her fellow “glass shatterers” won’t stop because it’s just not fixed yet! And finally, the pièce de résistance, and our real takeaway from this conversation… The art of shattering that glass isn’t just in its breaking, it’s in turning around and offering a helping hand to those that follow with hammers. This week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Gretchen Barton for a 30-minute conversation that honestly, shifts paradigms. ➡️

We were first introduced to Gretchen through a mutual friend, and in our initial meeting (after merely minutes!) we were so enthralled with both her and her work that we couldn’t wait to share it with literally anyone who would listen. Gretchen is a researcher and strategist in the political and policy space, and her work centers around the psychology underpinning behavior change and rewriting narratives. Say less. You know we are here 👏 for 👏 it 👏!

She is also the Founder and Principal of Worthy Strategy Group, LLC, a research and behavioral science consulting group specializing in uncovering and understanding how and why people think, feel, and behave as they do on a deep level, - wait - AND she’s the Lead Convener of the American Leadership Project. Not sure what all of that means, you say!? Well, believe us, ya want to know! And Gretchen will give you the TL;DR herself.

Over coffee, we speak about everything from presidential elections to Jonathan Taylor Thomas. We learn how stories she heard from Holocaust survivors in her community as a child influenced her pursuit of psychology and research. How founding a business was a bold act to not only follow her passion but also create the change she hopes to see in the world. And how telling better stories can shift culture. “Culture needs to catch up,” she says. It’s not enough to have women represented in media, we need to change how they are represented.

In this episode, we are joined by a leader in technology and innovation and the Founder of Prismm, Martha Underwood. Martha has also signed on as talent for I AM Series to share her expertise, particularly regarding the connection between money and power. 

Martha's story unfolds over 32 minutes of soulful, cup-filling conversation and inspiration.  We discuss building relationships and "collecting people" who, in turn, become part of our communities and success. Martha shares her mother's mantra to "be of service" and help one another - a mantra that defines how she moves through the world. 

We also discuss why she founded Prismm, a tech platform that enables the effortless transfer of generational wealth. Women in particular need this tool because most commonly they are responsible for managing caregiving, end-of-life planning or response, family money or wealth, and record keeping; often at the most transitional moments in their own lives and health.

Finally, we talk money mindset. Martha has been an inspiration and advisor in this space as often we channel her bold energy when it comes to making financial decisions or asks, and acknowledging the relationship between wealth and power. *Hmmmm, this feels I AM Docuseries worthy* Granted, she admits that she was not always as bold. It's something she too had to "rewrite." She notes, "When we accept and own that power, women change society for the better."

We are unstoppable, "we are to the moon!" she says, as we wrap our time together.  Hell yes, we are!

We’re just going to say it - Jen Mazer makes dreams come true!

No, she doesn’t have a magic wand (well actually, she might), but she’s not magic - she's the Queen of Manifestation. Jen’s coaching, workshops, and book have helped countless people manifest their full potential and live their BIG dream. (*Raises hand* Us too! 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️)

For us, Jen was believing eyes, and her practices, in turn, made us believe that our big dreams were possible.

We laugh about how we all met speaking 🎤 on a panel at Sundance in Utah when we all live just miles apart in Atlanta, GA. And we discuss, how that meeting eventually led us to pitch the I AM Series to Lisa. And with all her superpowers and experience in tow, she excitedly said "yes" and joined as a Director.

This week, Kacie and Katie "cuddle up" with Jean Franzblau, a woman who boldly embraces contradiction in her exploration of pleasure and power. 

Jean is the Founder of the Cuddle Sanctuary, an Intimacy Professional for TV, film, and theater, a Speaker on consent and sex-positive education, a Writer, and a Performer. 

We had the pleasure (this description will be riddled with puns, so strap in or on!) of meeting Jean last year through a mutual friend in the "film biz." We said, "The intersection of pleasure and power..." and she said, "Jean." After our first call, she enthusiastically signed on to the I AM Docuseries.

In this conversation, Jean leads us through her personal story and lived experience as she always does - with vulnerability and humor. And what's a good story without a little drama?! Theater drama that is. Jean shares how her work with PLEASURE has enabled her to step into her POWER and bring her most recent project to life -  "My Mother Doesn't Know I'm Kinky," a show written and performed by Jean herself!

Together - in 31 minutes - we discuss taboos, trauma, consent, creative outlets, healing, the power of community, middle-of-the-night wake-ups to question every decision we've ever made, drowning out the noise, betting on yourself, and JOY.

Welcome back to I AM Radio; and while you might love QT with your girls K+K, this week we’re joined by dear friend and fellow collaborator, Ciera Thompson.

And, the mantra of this week’s episode? Just go for it.

We got a front row seat to Ciera’s own bold moves a year ago when she seized the moment at Sundance to do what creatives, and entrepreneurs alike, do best - make something out of nothing.

What do we mean?

Ciera wrote a script for a short film back in 2022. She was handed rejections, doubt - from others and self - and generally considered it a passion project she created for herself, but perhaps not a commercial success.

At Sundance, the question, “What are you working on?” kept coming up, and Ciera took the chance to boldly call herself what she was - a writer and filmmaker - working on a short about LGBTQIA+ youth.

It was as if she had a magic wand, manifesting potential out of thin air. She scored an agent and a funder by the time we left just a few days later.

By the end of the year, she ran an oversubscribed crowd-funding campaign, won Film Impact Georgia’s highest honor, and brought the film to life in the most beautiful and authentic way.
