Today’s top news updates — Jacob Chansley, the January 6th shirtless rioter who donned a horned helmet and spear in the US Capitol Building, will remain jailed until his trial date. Authorities have also charged Texas realtor Jenna Ryan in connection to the DC riot; social media users magnified attention on Ryan after her public posts bragging about her attendance surfaced, along with the information that Ryan took a private jet to DC from her home in Texas. During the riot, she reportedly — and awkwardly — plugged her real estate business also.

With just 5 days to go in Donald Trump's term, things are relatively quiet in Washington, DC, aside from the aftermath of the riot on January 6th at the Capitol Building. At the moment, though, things are quiet: no new Twitter feuds, no new wide ranging conspiracy theories, just the quiet hum of the federal bureaucracy.

And that bureaucracy is going after more of the people who showed up on January 6th to cause damage. According to prosecutors, one of the Capitol rioters was planning "to take hostages," in part because he was carrying plastic zip-tie handcuffs. The rioter was also found to be a retired US Air Force officer. Other rioters have been identified as off duty law enforcement from places as far as California and Texas, according to reports.
