Happy Hour with John Gaskins

FULL FRIDAY SHOW: "Behind Enemy Lines" with NDSU experts Dom Izzo & Mike McFeely

Listen Later

After a week's worth of Happy Hour shows packed with deep dives about Saturday's Dakota Marker game — with guests like Dan Jackson, John Stiegelmeier, Taryn Christion, Kurtiss Riggs, and Matt Zimmer — there's really not much else to say, right? Wrong! Out of the Jackrabbit bubble and across the border we go for Friday's "Behind Enemy Lines" show to grasp more insight into the No. 1 Bison — the X's and O's and the Jimmy's and Joe's. Who are these guys? Why have they demonstrated machine-like dominance on both sides of the ball with an average score of 43-10 on their way to 7-0? (Hint: It is more than a perceivably soft schedule). While Chase Mason's injury hovers over the game — and yes, Izzo and McFeely have thoughts on if he'll play and how the injury affects the outcome — there has been a lower-key injury on NDSU's defensive line that may have high impact on the Bison's chances of rattling Mason or SDSU backup Luke Marble. Few know the Bison better than their TV play-by-play announcer Dom Izzo, who calls every NDSU game except this one (ESPNU's broadcast means no local call for either squad) and also hosts a 9-11 a.m. daily local sports show you can watch live here on Sioux Falls Live and KSFL-TV. Izzo provides the nuts-and-bolts primer for the matchups. And few have the pulse of both the team, the school, the fans and "Bison Nation" better than 30-year Forum of Fargo-Moorhead columnist Mike McFeely. Is the buzz as strong in Fargo as it has been for the last decade of these Top 5 tilts for the Dakota Marker? Are Bison fans as revved up about this rivalry as Jacks fans? McFeely has become publicly bored with NDSU (and SDSU) FCS dominance for a few years. Has North Dakota and Montana's emergence this season — and any other Top 10 team, for that matter — raised any added interest or respect for this level, or is it same old, same old desire for NDSU and SDSU to move on to the FBS like so many in the FCS have done? And, of course, the two veteran NDSU experts predict who will win the game. Will the Bison break the Jackrabbits' 33-game home winning streak? Before he goes "Behind Enemy Lines," Happy Hour host John Gaskins explains why the Dakota Marker is "the best rivalry going in college football." Plus, reaction to the Minnesota Vikings' 37-10 bloodbath loss in Los Angeles to the Chargers. Who is to blame most for these last two brutal losses and a 3-4, NFC North last place start? Can we stick a fork in Carson Wentz and the Vikings' playoff hopes? Who should play quarterback in the next game in Detroit?
