  • EP.48 James Wood on Surviving Serious Injury and Changing People's Lives Through His Story

Particularly when we're young, dumb and full of, well, let's say enthusiasm, it's easy to think that we're bullet proof. But through his story, James Wood, is opening people's eyes to the possibility and how to avoid a life-altering accident.

Each Wednesday, join me, Peter Finn, managing director of FACE Contracting, as I navigate the ups and downs of the mining industry with forward-thinking professionals from all walks of life. If you're involved in the mining industry in any way – whether you're a lifer or a high-school student looking to make the leap – Full Production is the podcast for you.

My guest is safety trainer and speaker James Wood. James is a former mining fitter, whose life changed drastically after a traumatic injury on site left him a paraplegic in his early 20s. By his own admission he stuffed up, and for the past twenty years he's made it his mission to try and prevent it happening to other people by sharing his story.

As you'll hear, he shares his story with a lot of humour and generosity. I think you'll agree it's both inspiring and impactful. And I'm sure there's a bunch of people enjoying their lives today thanks to him sharing it. Woody's words are words to live by. And I mean live.

Here's some of what we get into:

    • His tragic accident and it's repercussions
    • His rehab journey and what it taught him
    • Relearning to live in a different way
    • His journey to becoming a safety trainer and the evolution of his business CNB Safe
    • Compo mentality and how it changes people

You can spend your life coasting on the waves that come your way, or find out what you're really made of and dig deep to live a life that others will want to emulate.

If you're involved in the mining industry in anyway — whether you're a lifer or a high school student looking to make the leap — Full Production is the perfect podcast for you.

This week is a bit of a switch-up, with me speaking as a guest on the Inner Chief Podcast with Greg Layton. It's a massively popular podcast about success in the business world and how to be a great leader.

Greg gets under my skin as we talked a lot about the mining industry and how I got to where I am today with FACE Contracting.

    We also talk about:

    • What it's like growing up in rural Australia

  • EP.45 Getting in Shape — Mentally, Emotionally and Physically — with the Inspired Life Gym in Kalgoorlie

A new generation of miners requires a new way of approaching the mining industry, one that puts people above profit.

Each Wednesday, join Peter Finn, managing director of FACE Contracting, as he navigates the ups and downs of the industry with forward-thinking professionals from all walks of life. If you're involved in the mining industry in anyway — whether you're a lifer or a high school student looking to make the leap — Full Production is the perfect podcast for you.

This week's episode is all about fitness, as we speak to Willow & Bernice at the Inspired Life fitness centre in Kalgoorlie. They have some great advice on getting in shape if you've been a couch warrior for a bit too long.

Willow & Bernice said getting fit is just about getting through the door. Even those people who work out five days a week for years on end have plenty of times when they would rather do anything else than exercise. They work, like the rest of us, and just want to come home to a beer and some TV. It's a bit left field for Full Production, but fitness is something miners can't ignore!

    We also chat about:

    • Getting started in fitness if it's been awhile since you hit the gym
    • Mental, emotional and physical health and why it all goes together
    • How to make fitness fun instead of a chore
    • Why parents need to lead by example when it comes to health for their kids
    • How to get over self-consciousness at the gym (and in general)
    • The mining industry's lack of focus on mental health
