September 13 comes in the shadows of the 14th anniversary of 9/11 and provides a time to discuss why God allows pain and suffering.
1 Peter 5:9-10 (NRSV). 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters[b] in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.
2 Corinthians 4:8-10 (NRSV) 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies.
