Shepherd’s the “Lowliest of the Low” - After this episode was recorded; we’ve had some internal dialogue as to whether shepherds were the “lowliest of the low”. Tom’s final thoughts were “Luke Timothy Johnson's commentary on Luke  he says that we should not assume a criminal element in the job of shepherd, that comes from much later Jewish rabbinic source, however we should assume a lower economic level (as with Joseph and mary).”

  • Episode 4 - Repent!
In this episode, we begin the conversation on Repentance or the word Repent!  This word or act, for many, has a very negative connotation that we discuss in the first part of this episode.  As Tom points out, in referencing NT Wright, the verse says, “For God so LOVED the world…” not hated it.  Therefore, and hopefully this comes across in the episode, repentance is a very important and positive word in the Christian faith.  It does not have to have all the negative baggage along with it and can be a great practice for a person as well as a community as discussed.  Dig in, get some coffee and enjoy some laughs with us as we talk about repentance.  And then Repent!!!
    Scripture references from this episode:
Matthew 22 (with focus on 22:14)
    Romans 2:1-4
    Acts 3:19-20
    Psalm 34

Jesus for President by Shane Claiborne - What Justin could not come up with was that the last days of Christ in the Bible (not sure if it was one book specifically) but it mimics the coronation ceremony of a Caesar.  Very cool book by Claiborne, check it out.
