Funky French League and O’Soul have decided to join forces to offer you a soundtrack dedicated to waacking.
Waacking is a dance created during the 70s in the clubs of Los Angeles within the Afro-American and Latin LGBT communities. The name waacking comes from the onomatopoeia "whack" found in the Batman and Robin comics. It indicates the sound of a slap and evokes rejection. Its name also comes from the expression "you wack". This movement, born in the underground, quickly spreads on in the clubs of the west coast and, to the public and to straight dancers. Mix of various influences (martial art / ballet / gymnastics / street dance ...), the music associated with it comes from disco and funk, but this dance is above all a way of showcasing its difference, its extravagance, and d ‘ to make it a weapon.
Gradually disappearing in the 1990s, the movement was revived by a former dancer from Soul Train, Tyrone "the bone" Proctor, in the early 2000s.
The scene becoming more global, has gained renewed interest since the early 2010s with its entry into the dance battles.
O’Soul is a dance crew composed of individuals as different as powerful, with diverse and varied dances.
Mariana, SamTwo and Tine are three women who unite around the Waacking culture ! Inspired by hip-hop, contemporary dance and traditional African dances, they evolve on stage and in battles. Today they are part of the Funky French League where they perform during the Funk Phenomena parties.
