Avantgarde Music Challenge (AMC) 005 - "Kirby Ate My Studio"

Make a song of at least 30 seconds' length using the accompanying sample pack.

You may edit or effect the samples as you like. OPTIONAL: Try to use every sample at least once.

You may also choose one instrument of your liking to play alongside the samples!

(The samples come from the SNES game "Kirby Super Star", and are randomly chosen.)

This was another effort in learning the Erica Synths Sample Drum. I'm definitely liking it quite a lot. The sounds might be mangled into incoherent nonsense, but it's _my_ incoherent nonsense, damnit!

The challenge:

Make a song of at least 30 seconds' length using only the accompanying sample. You may chop and slice the sample, use effects, resynthesize it, etc. No other instruments.

Notes: The sample is 120bpm. Your song doesn't have to be, though. This information just helps you slice up the waveform and such.

I got a new module in my rack... the Erica Synths Sample Drum. It seems to be quite a powerful tool. I figured doing another run at AMC006 would be a great way for me to get used to some of the interface things with it.

My selected genre: Vampire barf!

I decided Let's Splosh would be essential for this. I started with an oscillator and Delay No More. It went a bit nutty from there.

I think this is the first time I've actually made psytrance. I'm pretty happy with this for a first attempt.

8bit Cipher CV outputs work wonders for filter cutoff automation. Pretty perfect for this kind of thing, really.

Also, I still have no noise module. Three oscillators and an extra output on a reverb module are slammed into Let's Splosh to generate "noise" for the hats.

Sometimes you've gotta make do with what you got.

Interesting modulation: The upper part also gets auto-rate modulation of the saw shape courtesy of that same Let's Splosh contraption, but the modulation is flipped on and off via Doepfer A-150 taking a clock divider as its VC in.

More goofing around with techno beats. I realize this might be easier if I had a noise source. This isn't some fancy shiny thing I'm super proud of, but it was fun.

That's what matters.

Some nights, it is nice to walk along the sidewalks just outside of your normal routine. Perhaps you'll find techno where you expected ambience. Perhaps you'll even like it.

My rack was intended for generative ambient stuff, but it turns out that it's quite flexible. One day, I might just conquer the world.

Now with extra stereo.

My (first) entry for Avantgarde Music Challenge 007. The challenge was to uncover an emoji from a hidden set and develop a musical piece around that. The catch: You have 48 minutes from the time you reveal the theme to the time you export your audio.
