  • #13 "COVID19 Special": Calming Anxieties- Heiko/Selina Niedermeyer

Taking care of your mental stillness by yourself, each day if you have to, is the way to future proof yourself from any potential anxiety meltdown. Negativity accumulates and if you don't peel them off piece by piece, there will be no room for positivity. Ideally you can do this every day and build it into your daily routine, but if not, you need to take a moment to shed off the negative feelings that start nipping at you.

Heiko and & Selina Niedermeyer practice and teach the Power of Releasing for nearly 30 years now. It's so simple at first you think this can't be true. It works, otherwise they wouldn't be doing this as a profession for so long. No religious or spiritual element to this at all. I tried it, and it works!

  • #010: Demystifying the Cannabis Industry - Blair Jordan

The cannabis industry, by legalization of medical and recreational use, attracted institutional and retail money and created a bubble with sky high valuations. Sound familiar?

This industry was no different to the internet boom or the ICO boom. Exuberant expectations and investment into this industry, bloated the market by over expansion of production, especially in Canada. Cash rich companies (not by profit) had to expand into other countries that legalized cannabis and acquire distribution channels and production facilities. However, many countries had a much stricter regulation around the industry and it fell short of many investors expectations.

However on a positive note, there are more countries looking at this industry, particularly on benefits from tax revenue, job creation and law enforcement cost saving, and there is a chance to re-do this industry all over again in other geographical locations.

Many cannabis companies now have to roll up their sleeves, bluntly re-examine their business model and decide if they need to blow this joint (industry).

Blair Jordan, a restructuring advisor specialized in the cannabis industry, dissects the industry from a business perspective and pulls the covers off of the ever so promising sector.

  • #11 "COVID19 Special": Rethinking Education Fiona Edwards-Brown

What are we educating our children for? Are we setting them up to be our future workers or is there something else that should be in the forefront when we think about our children's education.

The boomer's generation had a powerful economic growth so there was optimism for the future. Right now, with the stagnating economy, the future is not so clear. However, our world is changing so drastically, especially with technology's exponential growth and its strong relationship in our lives, it's hard to keep up. AI and automation is replacing our jobs and leaving us with choices that we weren't expecting to have.

Fiona Edwards Brown, the assistant principal of the International School Singapore, shares with us the approach she takes on educating children in a complex time we live in.

  • #009: Storytelling - Graham Brown

What do people love about a certain brand or company?
Is it the quality, price, looks, or is it the story behind it?

When we think of Apple, Microsoft or Amazon, we think of its founders, how they communicate, how they look on stage or on TV, and associate the company around their image. Companies also project their image around how their product or service looks to their end customer.

Storytelling a brand is not something new, it's been done for so long. If you ever watched an episode of Mad Men, even in the 60s they were spinning stories. Then why are we talking about it these days?

I believe in a world of so many options for consumers, if it's not the story of the brand, it's hard to differentiate anymore. Even their stories become tiring because it stinks of commercialism.

Then how do we do storytelling now? People say "authenticity" but we need to dig deeper into what that means. That's how we do it on the Future Design Podcast.

Graham Brown was the host of the Asia Tech Podcast, that hosted guests like Tony Fernandez (CEO of Air Asia) and Rod Drury (former CEO of Xero). Currently he is a public speaker, author and advises company on topics of leadership, storytelling and podcast creation.
