Frank had a great 13-year run as an executive at a high-growth cloud technology company that went public in 2011. He spent five of those years living in Hong Kong and building an enterprise software business from scratch in seven countries simultaneously across Asia-Pacific. He loved the experience, but burnt out. Out of sheer necessity, he decided to prioritize himself and took a break from his professional life. The impact on his well-being was real. He had a hard time envisioning working again — a scary proposition for someone who was defined in many ways by work.
It took two years before he was ready for his next adventure, which he welcomed with open arms. This was quickly cut short by COVID-19. He found himself locked at home without a job.
