We have now come to the place in this book where Job is repenting of all of his hard thoughts of God in relation to this great and awful trial that he has gone through. I think that it will be important in light of our partaking of the Lord's Supper in a few minutes that we would consider three thoughts that will lead us to better confess our own sins, and to repent of them in a way in which hopefully, we will be less likely to sin against God in that same way in the future. 1st of all – Remember, that no purpose of God can be thwarted or withheld from Him. (verses 1 & 2) 2nd – Remember, that there are with God things too wonderful for us to understand. (verse 3) And 3rd – Remember that in your repentance that there should be a righteous abhorrence of yourself which should lead you to more carefully consider, the sacrifice of Christ. (verses 4-6)

Sermon Idea: God's glorious presence encourages us to carry forward the mission of the Church into the bright future. Fallen Condition Focus: Memories are a precious gift from the Lord. Especially when those memories recall what God has done in our past. However, our attitude towards memories become unhelpful and even sinful when we idolize the past and measure what God is presently doing by what He has previously done. This is the issue Haggai addresses in his day, and it will drive us to the Gospel for encouragement regarding what God is doing presently among us!

This sermon describes the key, biblical teaching about Jesus in His deity and humanity. The author of Hebrews cites Psalm 8:4-6 from the Greek OT and applies it to both humans as "son of man" and Jesus as the "Son of Man." In the original creation, the non-human creation was subjected to Adam as the first man. Psalm 8 comments on that. Jesus in His incarnation is man who is "a little lower than angels." The comment on this within Hebrews speaks of the "not yet" of God's promises. Adam as man sinned and lost his status and was left with death and the fallen creation. Jesus as the last Adam subjected Himself to suffering and death to make possible the future glorification of man. Jesus has been crowned with glory and honor in His exaltation to the right hand of God. He is the supreme "Son of Man" who is the promised Messiah. He suffered on behalf of fallen man so that those who believe in Him are promised to be brought into God's presence. We do not now "see" all things subjected to man, but we "see," through the eyes of faith, Jesus crowned with glory and honor. We must believe God's promises concerning the 'not yet' future of man and know we will participate in final victory.

What does it mean to believe the gospel? To believe the gospel means trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life because of His death and resurrection. Salvation is God's free gift, received by faith alone apart from works, religious rituals, or personal performance. While obedience and discipleship are vital, they are the result of salvation—not the requirement for it. Because Christ's work on the cross is complete, believers can rest in the assurance of eternal life based on His promise. This life-changing truth should inspire us to joyfully proclaim the good news of God's saving grace to others.
