Marc and Dmitri explore how open-source technology can empower local communities and prevent massive monopolies or authoritarian regimes from controlling the future of computing. About the EpisodeThe public conversation around artificial intelligence is currently trapped between two extreme reactions. On one side, tech elites are terrified of existential doomsday scenarios, while everyday workers are understandably worried about losing their jobs to automation. Meanwhile, massive tech monopolies are quietly consolidating power, building closed systems that threaten to centralize global computing infrastructure. Trying to aggressively pause or blindly accelerate these massive models ignores the actual solution right in front of us.The real answer lies in decentralization and getting powerful computing tools directly into the hands of local communities. By embracing open-source infrastructure and wearable technology, marginalized groups and everyday citizens can build secure, private networks to solve their own unique problems without relying on big tech. This grassroots approach ensures that intelligent tools become a democratizing force rather than a weapon for authoritarian control. Tuning into this conversation will show you exactly how individual agency and open networks can completely reshape the future of digital sovereignty. About the GuestDmitri Mehlhorn is an attorney, entrepreneur, and author who actively works at the intersection of political strategy and technology. Drawing on his extensive background in venture capital and democratic activism, he recently authored a science fiction novel, Archipelago of Light, to stress-test the complex realities of our tech-driven future. He brings a uniquely practical perspective to the AI debate, arguing that our imagination must always remain accountable to real-world execution and political constraints. His insights are incredibly valuable right now because he bridges the gap between high-level policy theory and grassroots community action. Through his writing and advocacy, he continues to map out a future where open societies can thrive alongside rapidly evolving digital intelligence.Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dmitrimehlhorn/ Website: https://www.dmitrimehlhorn.com/ Timestamps:00:01:22 - Episode Commences 00:02:56 - AI Fiction Book Discussion 00:06:11 - AI Development and Civilization Paths 00:14:10 - Open-Source AI Trends Discussion 00:19:16 - Open Source in Totalitarian States 00:22:02 - Decentralized AI and Computing Trends 00:27:03 - AI Problem-Solving Categories 00:31:05 - Shaping Future AI Developments 00:33:21 - Decentralized AI Business Opportunities 00:36:19 - AI and Bureaucracy in Fiction 00:39:09 - Diverse Intelligence Across Species 00:47:17 - Episode Concludes Additional Notes: For more check out the website: https://futuretechandforesight.com/ Or connect with me on – Twitter: https://twitter.com/FutureTech_Pod Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/futuretechandforesight/

Why We Must Decentralize AI (With Dmitri Mehlhorn) - Ep #252

Marc and Harald explore why true level five autonomy is still years away and how remote human operators are becoming the crucial safety net for the entire autonomous vehicle industry. About the EpisodeWhile autonomous vehicles dominate headlines, the industry is still struggling to achieve true level five autonomy. Current systems operate independently about ninety-five percent of the time, leaving unpredictable edge cases that software alone cannot solve. Because unexpected real-world variables can easily paralyze artificial intelligence, operators are pivoting toward sophisticated remote monitoring networks instead of full automation. This emerging standard relies on remote safety platforms where a single human supervisor oversees multiple autonomous vehicles at once. Live video intercoms ensure immediate passenger safety while providing crucial data to refine driving algorithms over time. As driverless fleets expand into daily transit, building genuine public trust will depend entirely on these hybrid oversight models. About the GuestHarald Braun is a telecommunications executive and the CEO of Guident, a company providing connectivity and safety monitoring for autonomous vehicles. He founded the organization in 2020 after recognizing that public adoption of driverless transit depends on reliable, real-time operational safety. Under his leadership, Guident deploys proprietary remote monitoring platforms to manage driverless fleets across commercial environments.Through the Guide On platform, Harald champions a human-in-the-loop framework that allows off-site operators to intervene whenever autonomous systems encounter edge cases. This approach proves that a single supervisor can economically oversee multiple vehicles while maintaining passenger safety and confidence. Through his ongoing work, Harald continues to build the operational infrastructure needed to safely integrate autonomous vehicles into everyday transit. Website: https://guident.com/ Timestamps:00:01:22 - Episode Commences 00:03:07 - Autonomous Vehicle Connectivity Discussion 00:07:42 - Autonomous Vehicle Technology Status 00:11:32 - Remote Safety Operator Platform 00:15:51 - Autonomous Vehicle Human Oversight Model 00:19:30 - Autonomous Vehicle Human Oversight Future 00:27:03 - Autonomous Vehicle Safety Challenges 00:31:26 - Human Oversight in Autonomous Systems 00:35:54 - Autonomous Vehicle Scaling Predictions 00:40:00 - Autonomous Vehicle Safety Implementation 00:51:12 - Episode Concludes Additional Notes: For more check out the website: https://futuretechandforesight.com/ Or connect with me on – Twitter: https://twitter.com/FutureTech_Pod Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/futuretechandforesight/
