We’re talking about sports! In this episode, we revive an interview Rachel had with Dr. Janelle Joseph. Dr. Joseph is a Professor in Critical Studies of Race & Indigeneity as well as the Founder and Director of IDEAS (Indigeneity, Diaspora, Equity and Anti-Racism in Sport) Research Lab at The University of Toronto.
Rachel and Dr. Joseph discuss how Capoeira began her journey to activism, what is Misogynoir and how the media is portraying racialized athletes. We also discuss the ways in which women athletes are speaking up and celebrating who they are.
Dr. Joseph’s most recent book is titled Sport in the Black Atlantic: Cricket, Canada and the Caribbean Diaspora. Her main areas of research include embodied learning and leadership, decolonizing sport studies, and intersectional, transnational, anti racism studies of sport and movement cultures.
