Phil Morle is a Partner at Main Sequence Ventures, a deep-tech venture capital firm that was founded by the CSIRO, Australia's leading science research organisation. Phil also previously founded Pollenizer, Australia's first startup incubator, and was instrumental in building the innovation and startup ecosystem in Australia. 

In this episode, we discuss his role as Partner at Main Sequence, what venture capital is and does, building deep tech startups and how we can increase commercialisation and innovation in Australia.

Iain McIntyre is an incredible human who's had a wild journey over the past few years.

 While studying Law and Astrophysics at the University of Western Australia, he decided to make the jump into the startup world by building a visionary neurotech company called Humm. 

After 5 long years of building and running that business, which included raising millions of dollars, partaking in the Berkeley Skydeck accelerator and receiving a contract from the US Air Force, he had to make the pivotal and difficult decision to shut the business down. 

Today, I get to sit down with Iain to discuss his journey and learn more about building technology and startups with the potential to impact humanity at scale. 

 Dr. Nigel Greenwood is a mathematician with a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Queensland, specialising in differential game theory. He has expertise in new forms of evolutionary machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms and has authored multiple patents in the field. He was the team leader of Team MachineGenes in the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, and CEO/founder of the MachineGenes Group of Companies which include Evolving Machine Intelligence, Turbine Machinegenes and Diabetes Neuromathix. The application of his work in mathematics and AI have massive implications for biology and medicine, aerospace and aviation and countless other industries. I am honored to be able to dive deep and chat with Nigel on the Futureneering podcast today. 

 Cameron Higgins is the Founder and CEO of Resonait Medical Technologies, a startup that is developing medical technologies to treat depression and mental health issues. Cameron initially completed a Bachelor of Electrical engineering and advanced mathematics at the university of sydney and has spent 8 years working in neuroscience research at Oxford university while completing his pHD. He is now on a mission to improve the lives of millions by incorporating wearable brain sensors and neuromodulation in one, powerful device. 

In this episode of the Futureneering Podcast, I am joined by Viraj Agnihotri. Viraj studied bioengineering in India before moving to Australia to complete a Master's in Innovation Management and Mechatronics Engineering at The University of Queensland. 

While studying at UQ, Viraj decided to start his own startup company, Augmented Bionics, which aimed to solve hearing problems and hearing loss with a non-invasive bionic ear innovation. Viraj successfuly raised capital, submitted patents and developed initial prototypes and concepts, but ultimately had to shut down the company. Now he works as a Commercialisation Manager at Australian National University (ANU), where he helps turn promising research into useful products and companies that can positively impact the world.

In this episode I chat with Sam Banister, the Chief Science Officer at Psylo. Psylo is an Australian biotechnology startup that is developing novel, psychedelic inspired molecules to treat various brain issues.

Professor Allan Paull is the DSTG Chair of Future Hypersonic Technologies at the University of Queensland. Allan completed his Bachelor of Science in Applied physics and PhD in Applied Mathematics at the University of Queensland in 1987. He is now a world leading expert in hypersonics and scramjet technology which has applications for access to space, defence and potentially international travel in the future. He was the international program leader for the HYSHOT Scramjet Test Program at UQ, and was the first person in the world to achieve the first successful test flight of a scramjet engine, reaching speeds of up to 2.3km/second or Mach 7.6. I’ve known Allan from my time studying at the University of Queensland, when I was initially exposed to hypersonics and scramjet technology. Allan, thank you for joining me on today’s podcast. 

 Stephen Bornstein is the CEO of Athena AI and Managing Director of Cyborg Dynamics Engineering. He was formally trained as an aerospace engineer at Monash University, and has held several engineering positions in prominent companies including BAE systems, Rocket lab and Airbus. Stephen is now at the helm of 2 high tech startups where he works on developing cutting edge AI, robotics and autonomous systems to service both defence and commercial sectors. I’ve known Stephen personally for a few years now and closely watched his journey in both engineering and entrepreneurship, and I am grateful to have him join me on today’s podcast.
