Welcome to episode 26 of the Gabbin’ with Gavin podcast featuring our very special guest Ross Rebagliati!
Ross won the first ever Olympic snowboarding gold medal in the 1998 Nagano winter games! An amazing moment for Ross and Canadians all across the country was short lived as the very next day Ross had his medal stripped, and was taken to a Japanese prison after he tested positive for what was described as “a passive amount of secondhand marijuana”.
After multiple appeals with the International Olympic Committee, the decision was reversed and Ross received his medal that he rightfully won. It turns out marijuana was never actually on the Olympic banned substances list after all! The end result made Ross into an international superstar! Even making an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”.
Ross faced extreme challenges and handled them with extreme class, he is a true Canadian hero. It was a pleasure having him on the show!
