  • Gal Pals Watch Mulholland Drive
    Episode 14: Mulholland Drive

We're just going to be straight (ahem, gay) with you: this movie is messed up. But join Alicia and Sarah on their journey to try and make sense of this clusterf*ck of a film, rail on that patriarchy/White Art, appreciate Naomi Watts for who she is (which is only ever Diane?!), and hard thumbs-down this TRICK of a movie. Trick or treat! (The treat is last week's Better Than Chocolate).

  • Gal Pals Watch Better Than Chocolate
    Episode 13: Better Than Chocolate

Have you ever had a sex dream that involved body paint that looked like chocolate but wasn't? Do you like butch/femme pairings? Are you obsessed with queer bookstores and/or questionable existential art? Then you'll love Better Than Chocolate! Except for its (many) problematic aspects! But seriously, this 1999 Canadian gay romp is an important part of queer pop culture history. It's definitely a product of its time, but it does have its surprisingly woke moments! Tune in to hear Sarah and Alicia talk about plot holes, dildos, art, trans representation, and moms. Enjoy!

  • Gal Pals Watch Desert Hearts
    Episode 12: Desert Hearts

This week, Alicia and Sarah dig into this crucial film in the lesbian culture canon, and Sarah is downright shocked at how GAY this 1985 movie is! Want to hear about women in love in the desert who don't die or end up with men? Think you'd never find such a thing in a movie made before 2018? WELL HERE YOU GO.

    Episode 11: The Feels

We all know Constance Wu is amazing, but wouldn't she be even better as a lesbian? Well, in this movie, she is! Join Sarah and Alicia as they dive into this improvised ensemble dramedy in which a couple of engaged lesbians have a joint bachelorette party and one of them admits she's never had an orgasm! Hijinks ensue! We talk about relationships, communication, and how much we're obsessed with Ever Mainard (who plays Helen). Content warning for discussion of sexual assault and peeping toms.

Episode 10: The Secret Diaries of Anne Lister

This week, Alicia and Sarah talk about a BBC biopic about the OG 'modern lesbian,' Anne Lister! If you haven't heard of her, you're in for a treat. She was the smartest, out-est, gayest Victorian lesbian and this movie will make you laugh, cry, and say, 'whoa, what a great sex scene!' Here's to learning about our fore-queers, y'all!

  • Gal Pals Watch Personal Best
    Episode 9: Personal Best

Sports! This week, we're digging into the surprisingly good 1982 movie Personal Best starring Mariel Hemingway and Patrice Donnelly and some more dudes we hate! Of course Sarah is super excited about a movie involving runners who are queer women because that is her exact wheelhouse, but this movie has a surprising amount of nuance and interesting storytelling (even though it was, obviously, made by white dudes). It's still from the 80s so it has its problematic elements, but join Alicia and Sarah as they dive into this almost-forgotten classic to talk body diversity, the portrayal of intimacy, tropes they don't like, soundtrack and cinematography, and pure athleticism!

    Episode 8: Duck Butter
Do you know what duck butter is? Neither did we until this movie, and we kind of wish we still didn't! But whatever, it's cool! This week, Alicia and Sarah discuss the 2018 film Duck Butter, co-written by and starring another one of Sarah's crushes, Alia Shawkat! Join us as we discuss manic pixie dream girls, cute freckles, millennial stereotypes, abusive relationships, and poop!

  • Gal Pals Watch The Runaways
    Episode 7: The Runaways (2010)
This week, Alicia and Sarah continue their tour of Sarah’s celebrity crushes with Power Lesbian Kristen Stewart in her role as another Power Lesbian, Joan Jett. Both Sarah and Alicia agree: this movie is 5/5 Totinos. Listen as they talk about the exploitation of women, the ways in which Kim Fowley was a monster of a human being, the visual and audio perfection of this movie, and everyone’s favorite curly-haired cutie Alia Shawkat!

  • Gal Pals Watch All About E
Episode 6: All About E The important take away from this episode is that Sarah has a massive crush onMandahla Rose. Other things of note are that this movie is full of plot holes, there aresome very not great aspects of our main characters, and there’s a pretty fantasticlesbian sex scene! Enjoy friends!
