Deirdre has decades of experience in the entertainment industry, in such areas as production,
public relations, marketing and sales. She has also held positions in the area of business
development with Hospitality NL, Industry Canada and the Y Enterprise Centre. In 2006
Deirdre took her place as Studio Head for Other Ocean Interactive after conducting the due
diligence and spearheading the establishment of its Prince Edward Island studio. In 2007 she
oversaw the establishment of Other Ocean’s video game testing company, Sculpin QA
followed by the establishment of Other Ocean’s 2nd development studio in St John’s, in 2008.
Deirdre is responsible for all aspects of Canadian operations for the three companies which
develop video games and conduct quality assurance for such clients as Disney Interactive,
Microsoft, Major League Baseball, Sega, Konami and Electronic Arts. She has recruited talent
to Atlantic Canada from around the World including, but not limited to, China, Indonesia,
Brazil, and the UK.
Deirdre is a graduate of Ryerson University with a degree in Radio and Television. She is a
member of the Board of the Canadian Interactive Alliance, the Canadian Cultural Human
Resources Council, and the Selection Committee of the Genesis Centre at Memorial.

Dr. Adam Fenech Associate Dean, School of Climate Change and Adaptation and Associate Professor at the University of Prince Edward Island join us in an engaging discussion about climate change and what it means for all of us.

BA (Toronto); MES (York); PhD (Toronto)

Dr. Fenech has worked extensively in the area of climate change since the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change First Assessment Report in 1988. He has edited 8 books on climate change, most recently on Global Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainability in the Middle East. Dr. Fenech has worked for Harvard University researching the history of the science/policy interfaces of climate change. He has represented Canada at international climate negotiating sessions; written climate policy speeches for Canadian Environment Ministers, and authored Canadian reports on climate change to the United Nations. Dr. Fenech has taught at the University of Toronto as well as the Smithsonian Institution for over 20 years and lectures regularly at universities across Canada and around the world. Dr. Fenech shared in the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He is presently the Director of the University of Prince Edward Island's Climate Research Lab that conducts research on the vulnerability, impacts and adaptation to climate change, where his virtual reality depiction of sea-level rise has won international awards including one from MIT for communicating coastal science. He maintains the largest fleet of drones at a Canadian university including the largest drone in the country with a four-metre wingspan.

CPO1 David Steeves, CD

Chief Petty Officer 1st Class (CPO1) David Steeves enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on March 28, 1989. His first unit was Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Skeena in January 1990, where he sailed for two NATO deployments (1990 and 1992) and served until its decommissioning in November 1993. In December 1993 he was posted to HMCS Nipigon, where he served until it was paid off during the summer of 1998. He was then posted to HMCS Athabaskan later in 1998, where he again sailed for two NATO deployments (1999 and 2000), including a tour in the Adriatic Sea.

Promoted to Petty Officer 1st Class in 2001 and newly trade qualified, he served 11 months in Naval Training Development Centre (Atlantic) (NTDC (A)) Acoustic Standards, prior to being posted to HMCS Charlottetown. Following his tour at sea he was posted to NTDC (A) Tactics and Team Training as In Charge Underwater Warfare. In April 2005, upon promotion to the rank of Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class (CPO2), he served in Regional Joint Operations Centre Atlantic prior to another tour at sea on board HMCS Iroquois (Gulf Deployment 2008). His final position as a CPO2 was as Senior Staff Officer Underwater Warfare at Maritime Forces Atlantic Operational Readiness.

CPO1 Steeves was promoted to his current rank in April 2011. He attended the non-commissioned member Executive Professional Development Program at Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont., before challenging the Executive Level French Course in Shearwater, N.S. He was appointed as Coxswain of HMCS Athabaskan in May 2013. In January 2015 he was posted as Unit Chief at Trinity in Halifax. In April 2015 he was posted to Assistant Judge Advocate General (Atlantic) as the Chief for the four Atlantic provinces. In June 2017 CPO1 Steeves became Base Chief Petty Officer of CFB Halifax. In May 2018 he assumed the duties as Maritime Forces Pacific Formation Chief. Finally, in May 2019 he was posted to Ottawa as the Command Chief Petty Officer of the Royal Canadian Navy.

CPO1 David Steeves is happily married to his spouse, who is a CPO2 Financial Services Administrator. His two children are in school in Nova Scotia, while her son is in the Canadian Army awaiting training in New Brunswick. They both look forward to being close to family in the Maritimes where they can once again load up the camper trailer and chase local Blues Fests.

The University of Evansville head men’s golf coach Jim Hamilton has announced the signing of Michael Ikejiani to a National Letter of Intent to begin playing for the Purple Aces in the fall of 2020.

A native of Ontario, Canada, Ikejiani qualified for the Ontario U19 Boys Championship, the Canadian Amateur and the Ontario Open last summer. He won the Golf Ontario Champion of Champions Tournament and captured a fall series Canadian Junior Golf Association event.

“I am very excited to have Michael join our program,” Hamilton said “not only is he an accomplished golfer but also an outstanding student and person.”

Ikejiani’s outstanding play helped him to become recognized as a member of the prestigious 2019-20 Golf Ontario Provincial Junior Boys Team, which consists of the seven best junior players in Ontario.
