The Game Changers podcast celebrates those true pioneers in education who are building schools for tomorrow. In this fourth conversation of Series Thirteen, we talk with Corey Tutt - the CEO and founder of Deadly Science which gathers donations of STEM resources, and sends them to remote communities around Australia. Corey is engaged with over 100 schools around Australia. In a recent survey, these schools showed a 25% increase in engagement in STEM-related subjects. In some schools attendance has increased by 40%. Corey also devotes his time to making tomorrow a better day; and telling kids and people about the First Scientists our Aboriginal and Torres strait islander people. In 2021 he authored the First Scientists children's book which won ABIA Book children's book of the year. He is due to release his new book This book thinks ya Deadly in June which is an adult age range book. He also Co-Authored an Australian Geographic series for DeadlyScience. He also volunteers his time for Captain Starlight as an ambassador doing Animal yarns and donating books to sick children.

In this special series of Game Changers, Phil Cummins joins in conversation with Karen Mundine, CEO at Reconciliation Australia. Karen Mundine is from the Bundjalung Nation of northern NSW. As the CEO at Reconciliation Australia, Karen brings to the role more than 25 years’ experience leading community engagement, public advocacy, communications and social marketing campaigns. An architect of the landmark Australian Reconciliation Barometer, Karen works with governments, the business sector and civil society to advocate for change and is currently a member of the Australian Government’s Referendum Engagement Group. Over the course of her career, she has been instrumental in some of Australia’s watershed national events including the Apology to the Stolen Generations, Centenary of Federation commemorations, Corroboree 2000 and the 1997 and 2021 Australian Reconciliation Conventions.

In this third conversation of Series Thirteen, we talk with Lucy Amon - Indigenous Programs Coordinator, MLC Kew Campus. Lucy is an educator, First Nations person and mother. As a proud Noonuccal woman from Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), she has dedicated her 10 years in the secondary education setting to creating culturally empowered schools. Over the past 5 years as the Indigenous Programs Co-Ordinator at MLC, she has driven curriculum change with alignment to ACARA's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Cross Curriculum Priority, developed a school environment that focuses on cultural celebration as well as safety, and advocates for the young Aboriginal students enrolled at the College. Since having a daughter of her own, Lucy's aspiration is to create a classroom that her daughter's Aboriginality is seen, embraced, and one where she can thrive.

In this second conversation of Series Thirteen, we talk with Thomas Mayo, National Indigenous Officer of the MUA, a lead campaigner for the Uluru Statement proposal for a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice, and the author of Dear Son – Letters and Reflections from First Nations Fathers and Sons. Thomas Mayo is a Kaurareg Aboriginal and Kalkalgal, Erubamle Torres Strait Islander man. Thomas is a signatory of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and has been a leading advocate since its inception in May 2017. He is the Chairperson of the Northern Territory Indigenous Labor Network, advises the Diversity Council of Australia and the From the Heart campaign, and is an executive member of the Northern Territory Trades and Labour Council. Thomas is the author of four books, and has articles and essays published in The Guardian, Griffith Review and Sydney Morning Herald.

In this first conversation of Series Thirteen, we talk with Tammy Anderson, principal of Briar Road Public School in NSW. Tammy Anderson is a Biripi woman who has grown up with her family on Dharawal country in Airds, NSW. Briar Road Public School is significant to her as she attended there as a student and led the school as the first Aboriginal school captain in 1990. In 2013, she was appointed to the school as Principal where she strongly believes that the change in outcomes for disadvantaged children and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are possible through developing strong school culture, empowering community partnerships and the delivery of high-quality curriculum that caters to each child’s unique.
