Leann Wilson is a Bidjara and Kara/Kara First Nation descendent, and acknowledges her South Sea Islander heritage. She was born, raised and spent most of her life in Barcaldine in Central Western Queensland. Leann began her working life as a jillaroo and roo shooter in Central and Southwest Queensland before securing other opportunities. Leann has had several decades in government at both state and federal levels as well as the Australian Red Cross. Leann sits on a number of state and national boards and in recognition of her influence, in 2016 received the Queensland Premier's Reconciliation Award. Her research and expertise is strongly aligned to her Aboriginal community and heritage, however, she has research interests in mobility, identity, community development and wellbeing along with higher education. Her Yorta Yorta and Melbourne Aboriginal communities are at the centre of her work. Dr Andrews lectures in Aboriginal Studies and is Convenor of Aboriginal Studies at La Trobe University.
