Game Clique

What’s good, Clique! This week we’re serving up a stacked episode for all our fighting game heads and ninja action lovers. We kicked things off with the crew by digging into Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, the latest blood-soaked reboot that’s pulling no punches. Think precision steel meets punishing difficulty.

Then it was time to go full shinobi mode. We got an early look at Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, and bruh... the art style alone had us levitating. It’s sleek, it’s stealthy, and it’s got storytelling chops that feel like Kurosawa in HD.

But the real main event? EVO 2025! We broke down every jaw-dropping reveal from the world's biggest fighting game tournament:

- Tekken 8 officially unveiled the fighters in their next season pass

- Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls showed off new gameplay footage

- Ken got shadowdropped on Fatal Fury

- And more!!

Join the Clique as they reconvene for the latest Power Rankings, revisiting and reshuffling their hottest contenders of 2025. Expect fiery debates, surprise entries, and nostalgia trips as we break down the strengths and weaknesses of the season’s biggest titles.Throughout the episode, they dive into titles such as Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur Expedition 33, and more. From swinging through lush jungles and mastering barrel-based puzzles to racing across global circuits with reinvented power-up mechanics, debate rages over whether Donkey Kong Bananza’s revival claims the platformer crown or Mario Kart World’s innovations secure a podium finish. Meanwhile, chainsaw-wielding action in medieval castles and the brutal atmosphere of Doom: The Dark Ages spark discussion on how it measures up against its sci-fi roots. The stylized space odyssey of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 invites listeners to weigh its arthouse aesthetic and alien enigmas as it vies for a spot on the leaderboard. They also highlight wildcard contenders and surprise call-outs—from up-and-coming indies shaking the charts and fan-favorite comebacks demanding reevaluation to honorable mentions poised for breakout status.

We kick off this week’s show with rapid-fire takes on three hot releases. First, we unpack the haunting beauty and narrative twists of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Then we dive into the mobile gatcha Persona 5 The Phantom X. Finally, we suit up for Overwatch 2’s seventeenth season, sizing up meta shifts, fresh maps, and whether these changes finally stick. After our game reviews, we pivot to the big industry shake-up: Microsoft’s massive layoffs last week. We talk about the human impact on the teams behind our favorite studios and debate what this means for Xbox’s culture. As a gamer of color, I share why representation and community trust matter even more during times of corporate turmoil. In the final segment, we brainstorm solutions for restoring Xbox’s image and re-energizing its business. From ramping up support for Black and indie developers to reimagining exclusive titles that speak to underrepresented audiences, we sketch out a roadmap for rebuilding credibility. We even toss around ideas like revamped loyalty programs, studio transparency panels, and deeper partnerships with grassroots gaming orgs.

The Clique get into a no-holds-barred debate to crown the top ten video games of the year so far, the 2025 Power Rankings. We dive deep into the biggest games of the year—from the atmospheric mystery and challenging puzzles in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, to the adrenaline-fueled hunts and strategic combat of Monster Hunter Wilds, and the slick, narrative-rich vibes of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Each game sparks heated discussions about innovation, storytelling, and that undeniable gaming soul that connects us all.

We break down the nuances of gameplay mechanics, the art direction that brings these universes to life, and how these titles resonate with our experiences as gamers who’ve navigated both the golden eras and the rapid evolution of the industry. Expect real talk mixed with nostalgia, stats, and plenty of passion as we argue over what truly deserves a spot in the elite lineup. Whether you’re here for the deep dives or just vibing with the energy of a panel that’s lived and breathed gaming, this episode is set to keep you hooked from start to finish.

Stay tuned—after this episode, we’ll peel back even more layers on upcoming releases that'll rewrite the future of gaming, and share our personal game-changing moments that defined our journeys.

The Clique dives deep into the preorder chaos surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2—because honestly, was anyone able to get one without feeling like they were fighting in the Hunger Games? From website crashes to sketchy scalpers, they recount the battle for Nintendo’s latest console and question whether the company learned anything from past stock shortages.

But once they finally secured their console, the excitement quickly faded. The launch lineup? A little… meh. They dissect the list of day-one titles, calling out the lack of jaw-dropping exclusives and debating whether this lineup is among the worst in gaming history. From disastrous console launches of the past, like the Wii U’s forgettable start or the PS Vita’s underwhelming showing, they compare notes and rank some of the biggest misfires.

Before that deep dive into disappointment, they got hands-on with two intriguing new releases: 🎮 Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – A surreal RPG experience packed with stunning visuals and deep mechanics. Did it live up to the hype? 🎮 Blue Prince – A strategic, mysterious game with a unique approach to world-building. Was it a hidden gem or another indie that got lost in the shuffle?

Join the conversation as they vent their frustrations, celebrate the wins, and laugh through the pain of being gamers in a world that never makes it easy.

The Clique dives deep into the drama surrounding Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, the game setting the internet ablaze with its controversial protagonists and unexpected direction. From heated debates about historical accuracies to the uproar over monetization strategies, the hosts break it down with their signature mix of sharp insight and unfiltered honesty. They don’t hold back, taking Ubisoft AND the anti-woke to task while also acknowledging the ambition behind the game’s bold narrative choices.

But that’s just the warm-up.

The real begins when they reveal their private Steam wishlists to the world—a move they admit could either cement or utterly destroy their cred. With each host taking turns to justify the hidden gems (and guilty pleasures) on their lists, the gloves come off as they defend their picks and roast each other mercilessly. One host’s wishlist is packed with obscure indie titles, while another’s is a chaotic blend of fighting games and gooner games. Tensions rise as they attempt to crown a wishlist champion, and the audience is left to weigh in with their votes.

You’ll have to tune in to find out how the Mushroom Kingdom’s finest stack up against each other in this epic showdown.

But before we dive into the bracket, we chop it up about our latest gaming adventures. We’ve been deep in the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, taking on some wild beasts, and also tearing up the co-op scene in Split Fiction. Trust me, the vibes are strong, and the gameplay is 🔥.

Get ready for laughs, debates, and a whole lot of nostalgia as we celebrate all things Mario. Don’t forget to share your predictions and who YOU think should win the crown in the comments!
