Ladies and gentleman. Sadly, this is it. The FINAL show. Thank you everyone for making GOLIVE so special. You will always have a place in our hearts!
Suddenly out of nowhere, Playstation announces PC support in a manner that surprises everyone; the Playstation experiencce can now be found on PC starting with Ghosts of Tsushima. Playstation, like Xbox, is now taking PC far more seriously than ever before in an ever shifting gaming industry. The power of TV and cinema cannot be denied and Fallout is the latest example of this, with the critically acclaimed TV series resulting in massive sales boosts for a number of Fallout games. Xbox software appearing on Playstation has been a very controversial move but it looks like the move bears fruit for Microsoft as Xbox games dominate the Playstation charts, even more than Playstation games!
Star Wars Outlaws draw its fair bit of criticism as Ubisoft showed off its propensity to shoot itself in the foot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is reported to have much lower sales than its predecessor calling to question whether PLaystation exclusivity is even worth it, Xbox win big in the TV series front with Fallout.
After missing last week's show we have a lot catch up on including Hellblade 2 and the rave previews from many outlets but confirmation of its 30fps cap on Xbox Series X and S dominated the conversation, Stellar Blade's demo impressed many, Jeff Grubb has suggested that a Playstation Showcase will be happening in April and that Gears of War 6 should eb getting a tease or reveal this summer.
Its a big week for gaming news as 2 highly anticipated games got released including Dragon's Dogma 2 which got its fair share of love and hate, the latter dominating the airwaves more than the former.
Third party Playstation exclusive, Rise of the Ronin did not fare well critically. If you are sick of the Marvel IP and Marvel games then perhaps the trailer for Marvel Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra changed your mind with its stunning in-engine trailer.
We also saw more of Dune: Awakening and it looks like Unreal Engine 5 is thoroughly elevating the fidelity of game worlds across the board. We found out more about the specs of the Playstation 5 Pro, and hints again at a dedicated Xbox handheld being revealed soon, with Windows Central's Jez Corden stating that the lieklihood of this device existing is high.
Some big leaks this week as the Playstation 5 Pro specs were leaked and confirmed by Tom Henderson and they look mighty impressive. The cancelled Spiderman multiplayer title, Spider-Man: The Great Web had its trailer leaked and it seemed quite far into production. Ninja Theory released some mighty impressive photos of Hellblade 2 and confirmed it has a photo mode.
In other news, the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 is in the final stages of optmisation and Japanese sales figures for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth saw a huge drop off in the second week. Fornite and Anthem had new seasons released. Shawn Layden and Jim Ryan stirred the hornet's nest with their suspect comments on the state of the industry, the ABK deal and consolidation in general. Rise of the Ronin early impressions have not really impressed some and Multiversus is now officially returning in May and moving to Unreal Engine 5.
This week saw the annoucement of another big former Playstation exclusive game going to PC and that was Ghosts of Tsushima. Nintendo forced Yuzu (the emulation company) to submit, Stellar Blade got a surprise demo which then got pulled suddenly and Deviation Games was the latest studio to be shut down.
Unfortunately this week saw another huge wave of layoffs across the industry, notably with Playstation across the board with Playstation London's studio being closed, Twisted Metal reportedly being cancelled along with several other projects. EA also suiffered a similar fate wth major layoffs. Toys for Bob also announced its departure from Microsoft Game Studios by going independent. Many have been asking whether the gaming industry is imploding or whether this is just a necessary course correction.
Another excellent week for Playstation off the back of Helldivers' success; timed exclusive Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reviews have released and the game has attained critical acclaim. The trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree wowed many. Helldivers 2, despite its massive success however. suffered from server issues that made the game unplayable for many for days. Sony also had $10 billion of its value slashed over night as it cut its sales forecast as its game margin lowered to its lowest point in a decade. We got another Nintendo Direct which showed off a myriad of games and one of the biggest talking points was the appearance of former Xbox console exclusives at the show. Microsoft also announced the 4 games that would be going multiplatform which include Hi Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Grounded and Pentiment.
