Gardening has risen in popularity this past year during the pandemic, and both “green” and seasoned gardeners are tackling age-old questions like how to keep out unwanted pests and weeds and how to help the plants flourish.
In her new book Plant Partners, Jessica Walliser writes about companion planting, a popular gardening technique, from a science-based perspective. Today, she joins us for an upbeat, life-affirming show about pairing plants and making the most of your garden.
Jessica Walliser is a horticulturist, writer, and self-described “devoted bug lover.” She is a garden columnist for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and co-owner of SavvyGardening.com. For fifteen years, she hosted The Organic Gardeners on KDKA radio in Pittsburgh.
She is the author of seven gardening books, including Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden: A Natural Approach to Pest Control (Timber Press, 2013) and Plant Partners: Science-Based Companion Planting Strategies for the Vegetable Garden (Storey Publishing, 2021).
