Landry Cate made herself known when she was on the court for Fountain Lake’s volleyball team, and in her first year as a middle hitter for the Cowley Tigers, she has helped lead the team to the NJCAA national volleyball championship tournament.

In 36 matches for the Tigers, she has accumulated 119 kills, 65 blocks, 62 digs and 65 service aces. She has the second-highest blocks on the team, and with 60% of her serves landing as aces, she is third on the team and has the highest percentage among middles.

The team has dominated on the court this season, winning all 38 of its matches and dropping just three of the 117 sets it has played. The Tigers have committed just 402 errors in 3,477 attacks this season with a team hitting percentage of .378 while averaging 14.63 kills per set.

Six Garland County teams took to the gridiron for the first round of the high school football playoffs, and two teams came away with wins. James Leigh gives a brief rundown of all of these high school football games and talks to many of the coaches involved.

In a city rich with sports history and where lesser-known sports like pickleball thrive, a cornhole player based in Hot Springs sprang onto the scene in quick fashion.Chris Seaton started playing cornhole over the last year and a half, and he has turned into professional player.His father-in-law beat him 74 games in a row before he won a game himself. However, after winning that one game, Seaton went on to lose another 35 straight. Despite the tough battles, he decided to dedicate a lot of his time to cornhole.

A standout three-sport athlete at Lakeside and a Hot Springs native, Sharon Tallach Vogelpohl further immersed herself in the Arkansas sports world when she was appointed to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame board of directors.The ASHOF announced Oct. 27 that the four-year volleyball letter winner at Centenary College of Louisiana and the president and CEO of MHP/Team Si joined the board of directors as the chair of the marketing and membership committee where she will look to improve the reach of the organization throughout the state.
