In a World That Says There Is No God

오늘 우리는 정직한 기도로 하루를 엽니다. 시인은 마음을 숨기지 않습니다. “여호와여 어찌하여 멀리 서시나이까.” 그는 하나님이 계시지 않는 것 같은 시간을 지나고 있습니다. 그러나 바로 그 하나님께 부르짖습니다. 이것이 믿음입니다. 믿음은 감정을 숨기지 않고 하나님 앞에 다 쏟아 놓습니다.
Today we open the day with an honest prayer. The psalmist hides nothing. “Why, Lord, do you stand far off?” He is passing through a time when God seems absent. Yet he cries out to that very God. This is faith. Faith does not hide its feelings. It pours them all out before God.

Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.

시편은 우리 영혼의 모든 부분을 있는 그대로 비춰 줍니다. 그 안에는 우리 마음의 두려움과 슬픔과 분노가 다 담겨 있습니다. 시인의 “어찌하여”라는 질문은 불신앙이 아닙니다. 그것은 하나님을 신뢰하기에 나오는 질문입니다. 우리는 남남인 사람에게 이렇게 따지지 않습니다.
The Psalms lay open every part of our soul just as it is. They hold all our fear and sorrow and anger. The psalmist’s “why” is not unbelief. It is a question that rises from trust. We do not press a stranger like this.

He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

악인의 문제는 지식이 아니라 마음입니다. 악은 대개 노골적인 파괴로 오지 않습니다. 이름을 바꾸며 다가옵니다. 탐욕은 비전이 되고 집착은 열정이 됩니다. 죄를 죄라 부르지 않는 순간 양심은 둔해집니다. 이 왜곡의 정점에 교만이 있습니다. “하나님이 이를 감찰하지 아니하신다”는 말이 바로 그 교만입니다. 악과 싸우는 길은 단순합니다. 행동 이전에 하나님을 향한 의존을 회복하는 것입니다.
The problem of the wicked is not knowledge but the heart. Evil rarely comes as open destruction. It comes by changing its name. Greed becomes vision, and obsession becomes passion. The moment we stop calling sin by its name, the conscience grows dull. At the peak of this distortion stands pride. “The Lord does not see” is that very pride. The way to fight evil is simple. It is to recover our dependence on God before we act.
REFORMED NOTE · 개혁주의 노트
성경은 마음으로 하나님이 없다고 말하는 사람을 어리석은 자라고 부릅니다(시 14:1). 이것은 지능의 문제가 아닙니다. 마음의 방향입니다. 개혁주의 신앙은 죄가 우리의 생각까지 물들인다고 가르칩니다. 그래서 우리는 스스로의 지혜로 하나님께 돌아올 수 없습니다. 오직 은혜가 눈을 열어야 우리는 하나님을 봅니다.
Scripture calls the person who says in his heart there is no God a fool (Psalm 14:1). This is not a matter of intelligence. It is the direction of the heart. Reformed faith teaches that sin stains even our thinking. So we cannot return to God by our own wisdom. Only grace can open our eyes to see God.

시편 10:12, 14 — 개역개정
Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

“주께서는 보셨나이다.” 이 한마디가 시의 방향을 바꿉니다. 하나님은 멀리 계신 것 같았지만 벌써부터 보고 계셨습니다. 의인은 강한 사람이 아니라 맡길 줄 아는 사람입니다. 악인이 자기 확신으로 선다면 의인은 하나님을 의지하여 삽니다. 고아와 과부와 가난한 자를 향한 돌봄은 하나님의 마음을 그대로 드러냅니다. 그래서 의인은 스스로 복수하지 않고 하나님께 맡깁니다. 이 맡김은 약함이 아니라 가장 강한 선택입니다.
“But you, God, see.” This one line turns the psalm. God had seemed far away, yet he had already been watching. The righteous person is not the strong one but the one who knows how to entrust. The wicked stands on self-confidence, but the righteous lives by depending on God. Care for the orphan and the widow and the poor reveals the very heart of God. So the righteous do not take revenge themselves. They entrust it to God. This entrusting is not weakness but the strongest choice.
하나님은 멀리 계신 것처럼 느껴질 때에도 벌써부터 가난한 자 곁에 계십니다.
Even when God feels far away, he is already near to the poor.
여호와께서는 영원무궁하도록 왕이시니 이방 나라들이 주의 땅에서 멸망하였나이다 고아와 압제 당하는 자를 위하여 심판하사 세상에 속한 자가 다시는 위협하지 못하게 하시리이다
시편 10:16, 18 — 개역개정
The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. Defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.

시는 불평으로 시작했지만 찬양으로 끝납니다. 시인은 현실의 소란을 넘어 시간의 끝에 서 계신 하나님을 바라봅니다. 악인은 “하나님이 잊으셨다”고 말하지만, 시인은 하나님이 잊지 않으심을 압니다. 보이지 않아도 계시고 늦어 보여도 놓치지 않으십니다. 악인은 순간을 지배하지만 하나님은 결론을 바꾸시는 분입니다. 그러므로 악의 번성과 의인의 고난은 과정일 뿐 결말이 아닙니다.
The psalm began in complaint but ends in praise. The psalmist looks beyond the noise of the present to the God who stands at the end of time. The wicked says, “God has forgotten,” but the psalmist knows that God does not forget. Though unseen, he is present. Though he seems late, he misses nothing. The wicked rules the moment, but God is the one who changes the ending. So the prosperity of evil and the suffering of the righteous are only the process, not the conclusion.
REFORMED NOTE · 개혁주의 노트
개혁주의 성경신학은 하나님 나라를 이미와 아직의 관점에서 보도록 도와줍니다. 하나님은 이미 왕이십니다. 그 통치는 지금도 참됩니다. 그러나 악에 대한 완전한 심판은 아직 이르지 않았습니다. 우리는 이 둘 사이에서 기도합니다. 이미 왕이신 분을 신뢰하며, 아직 오지 않은 완성을 기다립니다.
Reformed biblical theology helps us see the kingdom of God in terms of the already and the not yet. God is already King. His reign is true even now. Yet the full judgment of evil has not yet come. We pray between these two. We trust the one who is already King, and we wait for the completion that has not yet come.
우리를 먼저 찾으신 분은 왕이십니다. 우리가 그분을 향해 손을 뻗기 전에, 그분이 우리의 울음을 들으셨습니다. 멀리 계실 수도 있었던 왕이 친히 낮은 곳으로 내려오셨고, 십자가에서 압제받는 자의 자리에 서셨습니다. 그래서 우리의 섬김은 빚을 갚으려는 몸부림이 아니라 이미 받은 사랑에 대한 응답입니다.
The King sought us first. Before we reached out to him, he heard our cry. The King who could have stayed far off came down himself and took the place of the oppressed on the cross. So our serving is not a struggle to pay a debt. It is a response to a love already received.
그러므로 오늘 우리는 두려움이 아니라 감사로 살아갑니다. 하나님의 얼굴빛 앞에서 사는 사람은 가난한 이웃의 얼굴을 살피게 됩니다. 받은 은혜가 우리를 다른 이의 편이 되게 합니다. 이것이 자유입니다. 은혜로 자유롭게 된 사람은 사랑으로 자유롭게 섬깁니다.
So today we live not in fear but in thanks. The one who lives before the face of God begins to look on the face of the poor neighbor. The grace we have received makes us take the side of another. This is freedom. The one set free by grace is free to serve in love.
기도 · Prayer
왕이신 하나님, 멀리 계신 것 같은 때에도 우리를 보고 계심을 믿습니다. 세상의 악 앞에서 무감각해지지 않게 하시고, 정직하게 부르짖게 하소서. 우리가 받은 은혜로 힘없는 이웃의 편에 서게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
King of heaven, we trust that you see us even when you seem far away. Keep us from growing numb before the evil of the world, and teach us to cry out honestly. By the grace we have received, let us stand with the powerless neighbor. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
