Thank you Dora Delgado for joining us on Past the Wire
Breeders’ Cup Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Officer Dora Delgado is one of the most accomplished racing executives you’ll meet. Her tenure of about 40 years with the Breeders’ Cup speaks for itself and goes towards her dedication, commitment, loyalty, and love for the horses and the sport. Dora is one of the main reasons The Breeders’ Cup went from shall we say The Super Bowl or World Series of Horse Racing to a world class and recognized major sporting event.
With Dora’s titles comes a world of responsibilities at the highest level of the sport. To quote The Breeders’ Cup website description of her duties:
“She is primarily responsible for the development and administration of the Breeders’ Cup’s racing programs around the world including the Win and You’re In Challenge Series and thoroughbred racing’s greatest global event, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. She is also responsible for the promotion and expansion of the foal and stallion nomination programs worldwide to maximize participation and generate program sustaining revenue.
In her role, Dora manages the event Equine Security Team, the Breeders’ Cup Veterinary Panel, the Field Selection Panel, the Breeders’ Cup Racing team and works with the host track and its staff to create the safest and most secure environment possible for the equine participants. She is also responsible for all horse recruitment, equine event logistics and operational setup for the annual World Championships including communications with all federal, state and international regulatory authorities and works with the host state racing commission to ensure that any necessary waivers, rules and regulations are in place.”
That is a 24/7 role and year round as are many careers and positions within our industry. Dora frankly takes us behind the scenes with what it takes and involves to make this world championship event happen smoothly. We relive some moments and explore where the Breeders’ Cup has been and where it is going. We were fortunate to have Dora on the show and we can all get more than a glimpse into the Breeders’ Cup.
On this Past The Wire TV show we welcome Florent Geroux for a One on One talk with Jonathan Stettin in The Rogue’s Gallery. Flo joins us fresh off his 8th and counting Breeders’ Cup win aboard Idiomatic. The win put the Brad Cox filly right square in the middle of The Horse of the Year discussion under a crafty and hard fought ride by Flo.
Florent Geroux has out together quite a resume in the saddle with 8 Breeders’ Cup wins, a Kentucky Derby albeit not exactly the way he wants his next one, and riding some of the best horses in recent times. He was the regular rider of Gun Runner a world class racehorse, a war horse if you will and a throw back to the great horses of the past. Was one of Gun Runner’s best races a race he didn’t actually win?
Flo talks about some of his past races and horses but also about one of the most exciting two-year old prospects to hit the track this year. How good does Flo think Nash is and when and how did he know it? You’ll have to watch and listen to find out but we are confident it will be worth it. Florent Geroux is not only a great rider but a great guy to talk with, especially horses. Flo even gives us a bit of an education of the new crops and how they actually are in a race.
Bottom line, great guy, great rider, great show. Nobody Does it Better!
Big Mike loves the game and we love Big Mike. Yes, Mike is a gentleman who carries himself with nothing but class, but it is his enthusiasm and love for the sport of horse racing, and his consistent posting of monster tickets that got him on Past the Wire TV and into The Rogue's Gallery. Not everybody gets in, you gotta earn it!
Mike Crutchfield understands what it takes to beat the game. It wasn't always that way however and Mike is more than willing to share his journey to going after pools and scores.
Mike and John talk betting, ticket structure, philosophies, social media and a lot more. You know how it is, out two passionate guys about the sport together and a lot comes up and comes out.
We loved our Big Mike show and we think you will too. You can follow Mike on X formerly known as Twitter at

On this episode of @PastTheWireTV we welcome one of the hottest jockeys on the planet right now, Antonio Fresu. Antonio made his way from Dubai where he won the Golden Shaheen Sprint on Zenden to the Southern California circuit and is winning in bunches at both Del Mar and Santa Anita. We sit down in the Rogues Gallery for some One on One with Antonio Fresu fresh off his win on Chatalas in the Breeders' Cup Win and You're In Chandelier Stakes. Our own Jon Stettin talks horses, race riding, and some food and more with Antonio. Will Antonio wind up in the Breeders' Cup on a live horse his first year riding in the states?
