As we consider Jesus the baby, we are invited to encounter the God of all creation – His power, might and majesty. The Apostle John starts his account of Jesus story not in a stable in Bethlehem, but by taking us to the very beginning, where Jesus was found in the midst of creation. “Through him all things were made, without him nothing was made that has been made”. John reminds us of the power, pre-eminence and glory of the one named Jesus. It’s no wonder that a star that he flung into its place, lights the way to him, and that angels in the heavens he made declare his birth.

As David cried out to the Lord for forgiveness, God in his extravagant grace, chose to take away David’s sin and restore him. We are all broken sinners in need of God’s extravagant grace. In Christ, we are all offered forgiveness of sin and restoration of relationship through the blood of Jesus. Today is a good day to flee from temptation, confess our sins and seek healing in Jesus.

Everyone, except David, was discouraged by and terrified of an arrogant and abusive giant coming against them. Their faith was shaken, and they were paralysed by fear. David however was full of faith in the Lord Almighty, which gave him the courage to face the giant, fight the giant and ultimately to defeat the giant. We all face some giants that shout at us, shake our faith and paralyse us with fear. We don’t find courage to face our giant by asking, “what am I capable of”, but rather “what is God capable of and what is He saying in this situation?”

To love and to be loved is core to our flourishing as humans. For most, this finds expression in the context of marriage – the most intimate relationship two humans can experience. Having a happy and healthy marriage is certainly part of the good life. Jesus surprises us with the revelation that the key to a great marriage is putting Him before your spouse. To live the good life, and to live it forever, He must be our first ‘plus one.’

This series called Finding the Good Life will help you in your relationships to those who you live, work and laugh with. As we know, living the good life is up to us and our investment in relationships with the people around us.  If those relationships are strained or broken, it doesn’t have to stay that way; if you’re lonely, it doesn’t have to stay that way; if your family is a mess, it doesn’t have to stay that way.
