Peter's message in 1 Peter 2:1-3 is direct: get rid of what is rotting you from the inside and start craving what actually helps you grow. He calls believers to strip away patterns like deceit, jealousy, hypocrisy, and unkind speech, comparing them to filthy garments that have no place on someone made new in Christ. In their place, he urges a relentless, consuming hunger for the pure spiritual milk that God provides. That milk is not just Scripture in a narrow sense, but the full provision of God: Jesus Himself, the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, and the love of God. When you genuinely feed on these things, the pull of the old patterns begins to lose its grip. You grow toward whatever you feed yourself, so the invitation is simple: crave the real thing.
